Another brand is changing its packaging amid larger discussions from consumers of what is and isnt appropriate.
The ice cream brand long known as Eskimo Pie will henceforth be called Edys Pie in a nod to its brand founder, candy-maker Joseph Edy. Its also an effort to distance itself from what Elizabell Marquez, head of marketing at parent company Dreyers, told The New York Times was an inappropriate term that did not reflect the brands values.
According to a statement, the company paused production of the ice cream bar with Eskimo Pie branding three months ago. Edys Pie packaging is expected to debut in early 2021.
Snow-capped mountains remain on the new packaging, which prominently features the ice cream bar itself. But gone is the child, who, along with the original name, was meant to evoke the chilly north and the indigenous people who lived there, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

Is Washington(DC) ever going to pick a new name for football team?

(128,950 posts)They are probably at a loss because that racist "Aunt Jemima" is so branded into people's brains that a pivot is going to be an issue for them. It's owned by Quaker Oats (part of Pepsico), which itself is an old brand. They could just call it "Quaker Oats syrup".
And I do think D.C. will come up with a name for their team. But then since the NL East in general is just awful this year (and it's just bizarre that my Eagles are in first place with 1 win, 2 losses and a tie - where Dallas actually lost to the Browns... maybe give up this year ).
Note the phrase: "Chocolatery Coating". This is primarily brown wax.
Chocolatery is a very clever word suggesting chocolate, but it has no legal or nutritional meaning whatsoever.
Similarly in the ice cream aisle: "Frozen Dairy Desert" is not the same as ice cream.

(26,071 posts)It is a racially-charged term, like Squaw or racial slurs used against POC.
Your responses to these name changes are... interesting.

(951 posts)Just seeing the dull word PIE in all caps with mountains in the background makes me laugh. Those aren't pies. They're ice cream bars. I know they are trying to hold on to some familiarity with the old name, but I just think it looks so silly.
Who is Edy anyway? They are owned by Nestle. I'm not bothering to look it up.
