Biden: 'We shouldn't have' second debate if Trump still has COVID-19

Former Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday he and President Trump should not go ahead with next week's presidential debate if Trump still has COVID-19.

Biden, who clashed with Trump at a chaotic first debate last week, told reporters at an airport in Hagerstown, Md., that the pair's second scheduled faceoff should follow protocols from health officials.

The former vice president said he will ultimately be guided by the Cleveland Clinic, which is overseeing health conditions for all presidential and vice presidential debates this year.

“I think if he still has COVID, we shouldn’t have a debate,” Biden said of Trump, who was diagnosed with the disease last Thursday.

“I think we were gonna have to follow very strict guidelines. Too many people have been infected. It’s a very serious problem, so I will be guided by the guidelines of the Cleveland Clinic and what the docs say is the right thing to do,” he added.

as far as the cleveland clinic goes -- didn't they allow that rat's nest of a family to remain seated without masks? chris wallace said a doctor came and talked to them right before the debate started and they waved the doctor off.

also, i heard (also from wallace? i forget) that they all showed up too late to get tested before entering.

maybe joe should double check any advice the cleveland clinic gives him with another source as well

So i wouldn’t put it past him if there is a debate for him to try to deliberately infect Vice President Biden if he gets the chance. He cannot be trusted to do the sane, rational, human thing about anything. He’s criminally reckless and even more so now when he thinks he’s going to lose. He’s determined to destroy as much as possible and hurt as many people as possible as his pulling the plug on any further COVID relief for those who desperately need it. So no way Vice President Biden should take that chance no way. And there is no reason to put all of the people in the studio at risk of serious injury or death. As historian Michael Beschloss noted this evening the third Kennedy Nixon debate in 1960 took place remotely with Nixon in Los Angeles and Kennedy in New York and that wasn’t a pandemic situation with a maniacal malicious superspreader as one of the participants. So if it happens at all it should be done remotely as that debate in 1960. We all know that technology has certainly improved since then and it can be easily effectuated. The risks are too great to chance it.

Given the utter lack of credibility of this gang of plague purveyors I trust nothing about Pences current infectious status, so I think a level 4 biohazard suit would be appropriate for Senator Harris’s protection, and even then I wouldn’t be comfortable. I don't even like Kamala debating Pence tomorrow night with only a sheet of plexiglass between them. Do the Kennedy/Nixon thing with the split screen, and put them in 2 totally different locations (as long as trump is not in the Oval Office).

So of course the Trumpers and Trump himself will use it to call Joe a chicken. It probably won't matter much in the long run, but it will happen because otherwise the narrative after the second debate will be one of the following:

1. Trump is deemed the winner. Wow! Joe couldn't even take him though Trump has Covid/has recently "recovered" from Covid.
2. Biden wins. Well, of course, Biden won. He's beating up on a man with Covid/recently "recovered" from Covid
3. Trump collapses. LOOK WHAT JOE DID!
