Fauci: There could be 300,000 to 400,000 Covid deaths unless precautions taken

Dr. Anthony Fauci offered a grim image of the coronavirus pandemic, telling students Tuesday that between 300,000 and 400,000 people could die from the disease in the United States.
Speaking at a virtual event hosted by American University, the White House coronavirus specialist said: "If we don't do what we need to in the fall and winter, we could have 300,000-400,000 Covid-19 deaths," according to excerpts tweeted by the school.
More than 200,000 people have died from the disease in the United States, and over 7 million have been diagnosed with it. A University of Washington study found in August that as many as 300,000 people could die of the disease by Dec. 1.
Fauci added that a vaccine likely won't be widely available until next summer or fall. That timeline is in line with a prediction by CDC Director Robert Redfield, who warned the Senate Appropriations Committee last month that it would take about six to nine months to vaccinate the public once a vaccine is approved.

(128,914 posts)where we had generally been able to knock it back in the spring with extreme measures. None of the governors want to go there again, particularly now that we are in a better position to get simple things such as masks/face-coverings for citizens and there is some kind of testing available (although the reagent/swab shortages are still evident).
But as people saw in the news about what is going on in certain communities in NYC and the arguments over complete lockdowns, plus the slow uptick of long-term care facility infections once more, let alone the upcoming holidays, and we may be in for a potential nightmare repeat of the spring.

I just saw this morning that a Patriots player has now tested positive, so that has put another wrench into the NFL schedule, where you now have members from 3 different teams who have tested positive this past week, and this is just week 5 and they have 11 more to go for each of their schedules.

Mask up, wash your hands, social distance, avoid exposure.
