In late-night tweets, Trump changes course on coronavirus relief talks
Source: ABC News
In a pair of late-night tweets, President Donald Trump, changed course on negotiating coronavirus relief that he had earlier announced he was calling off until after the election.
"The House & Senate should IMMEDIATELY Approve 25 Billion Dollars for Airline Payroll Support, & 135 Billion Dollars for Paycheck Protection Program for Small Business. Both of these will be fully paid for with unused funds from the Cares Act. Have this money. I will sign now!" he posted shortly before 10 p.m.
"If I am sent a Stand Alone Bill for Stimulus Checks ($1,200), they will go out to our great people IMMEDIATELY. I am ready to sign right now. Are you listening Nancy?" he posted about 20 minutes later.
The late-night change came after a surprise announcement that he was calling off the talks with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

(11,005 posts)I had a nightmare somewhat like that.
In the dream, I was sound asleep and my cell phone went off with an emergency alert. And in my dream, I looked at the phone, and the message on the phone said 'go turn on your TV.'
So I get up, go turn on the TV, and every station has the same thing on it. The bombs are headed towards the United States and we have 30 minutes. And in the dream I sat there trying to figure out what to do in that 30 minutes. I think all I came up with was calling people to say goodbye and tell them I loved them.
Thankfully, I woke up right after that. I was in full-blown panic mode, heart racing, blood pressure through the roof. Took most of the day to calm down.
I hadn't had a nightmare since I was in grade school. I'm in my sixties, and that was the first of many nightmares I've had since Trump started destroying the country.

(11,005 posts)oblivious to what is actually happening.
And the rest of us are sitting here wondering, will we ever get back to something resembling normal?
I honestly wake up some mornings and I don't want to get out of bed. This morning I got up, and then went and crawled right back in. Tried to sleep for a few more hours. So that was a few hours I didn't have to think about what was going on in Trumpworld.
I fell back to sleep and what did I dream about?
Dreamt that I was with a whole group of people. We obviously worked together. And we were all going to lunch. No masks, no social distancing, no pandemic.
It was a normal day. Guess I must be craving normal!
Here. We both need this.

Rejecting the relief bill was one of his stupider decisions. The idiot is under influence of the drugs and should have relinquished power to Pence.
It's too late for him though. He's still going to lose.

Maybe because that ignorant asshole has been sitting on hundreds of bills we've passed, pissing on the American citizens the whole time.
Why don't you get on your telephone thingy & have McTurtle explain to you (really slooooowwweely) what we suggested months ago.
I really look forward to hearing from you. (If you can do it without running out of breath, or coughing)

(15,322 posts)Let's see what it wants now:
$25 billion for "Airline Payroll Support." - The last one of these they did was just spent on stock buybacks and executive bonuses. Employees were still fired.
$135 billion for "Paycheck Protection Program for Small Business." - The last time, most of this went to companies who had no need for it, probably big trump donors who laundered it back as "campaign contributions."
The only thing that will help is direct federal support paid directly to families so they don't have to go out and risk infection to survive. The original house bill that would address this was $4 trillion. Trump had a tantrum, had his lackey mnuchin propose a meaningless $1 trillion alternative (mostly going to those who don't need it, of course.) So the House "compromised" and reduced the bill to about $2.5 trillion. All for naught since moscow mitch refuses to pass it and trump has tantrums.
A couple of days ago, its tween said "get it done" followed by a 180-degree refusal, and now we're 180-degrees back with an "IMMEDIATE" demand to pass a ridiculously small amount targeting the wrong things. All of this while campaigning for re-election? Gee, I guess we'll all have to see more debates to decide for whom to vote!!!111!!!!1!

And remember that this reversal literally just happened late in the night (ET) and it was lost in a stream of manic tweets.
Sadly, a large chunk of the population have no clue how the government works. It has been so obfuscated as "run by a bunch of bureaucrats who are purveyors of red tape" and "the 'deep state'" that people have been brainwashed to hate it and refuse to learn its role and functions, which used to be taught as "Civics".

The latter especially, he tried to roll that back then got put in his place by the billionaire CEO's of big pharma, which he thinks he's giving a break, and had to retract. His internal fantasy of ultimate control was challenged. His response was "I'll show all of you, one tweet and I can swing the market". An act of a sad person who refuses to humble himself and be at peace with himself. He was told no you can't go home. He got told he can't go into the Oval. This is classic "narsciopath" behaviour. He and those that he suckered into this giant scam of scams will pay as history teaches us.
