Trump says Gold Star families could have given him Covid-19
Source: Politico
President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that he might have contracted Covid-19 from Gold Star family members who were too close to him when telling stories of their loved ones who died in the line of duty.
In an interview on Fox Business, Trump told host Maria Bartiromo that he "figured there would be a chance" he would become infected with the coronavirus, citing his meetings with the families of America's war dead.
"Sometimes I'd be in groups of, for instance, Gold Star families. I met with Gold Star families. I didn't want to cancel that," Trump said. "But they all came in and they all talk about their son and daughter and father. And, you know, they all came up to me, and they tell me a story."
The president proceeded to recount some of those interactions, saying the family members would approach him to "tell me a story about, 'My son, sir, was in Iraq'. Or, 'He was in Afghanistan.' And, 'Sir, he did this, and he did that, and then he charged in order to save his friends.' And, 'Yes, sir, he was killed, but he saved his friends. He's so brave, sir.'"

(26,753 posts)It's clear that many people at the SCOTUS nomination party have tested positive. It's pretty clear that this was the event where the virus spread.
If you didn't catch it there... then you might be the source that everyone else caught it from.

(16,868 posts)And to blame this on Gold Star families is absolutely atrocious and predictable. No, Donnie, you did this to yourself. You held these events, you chose not to wear a mask because you thought you were invincible, and now you continue to act like an ass even with this disease.

(739 posts)In the article, but when I read this I am hearing Trump's voice having a mocking, slightly derogatory edge. Did anyone hear the interview? What was his tone? Was he mocking these families?
And given his history of mocking the military, people who died, people with disabilities, etc I am not surprised I read it this way. I would never put that tone to it in my head if anyone other than Trump was speaking.

(14,855 posts)Gold Star Family Day is the last Sunday of September, which would've been the day after the Barrett celebration where the Notre Dame President was apparently infected too.
I assume that's when Trump would have met those families, anyway.
Edit: Here's a reference to that day.
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2020/09/25/heres-president-trumps-proclamation-honoring-gold-star-mothers-and-families.html
Congress in 1936 designated the fourth Sunday in September as "Gold Star Mother's Day" in recognition of the American Gold Star Mothers Inc. organization. But in recent years, presidential proclamations have expanded the day to "families" as well.

No, after blaming the military and police for infecting Hope Hicks, now the Bone Spur Chicken is blaming the families of people who dies for their country. Wow, the class just oozes out of him ...

His excuse is that he played lots of heavy contact sports in college and now his body is shot and he is in constant pain and he doesn't take his meds because he thinks he's impervious to injury. Or he shows up to a tailgate party with his fly unzipped and sticks his fingers in the dips to taste them.
There are some people who just need to be avoided and Trump is an extreme example of this kind of mental illness.
I don't think this ends well with our "friend" or with Trump....
