Source: Fox 13 News

TAMPA, Fla. - The Florida Department of Health says the number of known cases of COVID-19 in the state rose by 3,306 Thursday. According to the state's daily update, the total number of cases in Florida is now 726,013.

Florida is interesting because they have scaled back in testing so that they are in the bottom five in terms of tests taken per 1000 people, so that their number of cases can be depressed to justify DeSantis's latest push to remove social distancing restrictions.

However, this has just caused the positivity rate to jump over 10 percent and now Florida has even more deaths than more populated states such as California and Texas. For that matter, Florida has had more deaths over the past week than Italy, Canada or Germany.

1. I saw an article that said that Texas has now surpassed California for total deaths

with Florida in 3rd place. So I expect it will end up leap-frogging California too.

And although all 3 of those states have a large vulnerable population (Hispanics), Florida has the double-whammy of having a large elderly population as well.

3. Holy Jesus! They are up to 30th highest in daily new cases per capita, 7 day moving average

After NoDak, SoDak, Wisconsin, Montana, Utah, Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Tennessee, Kansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Mississippi, Minnesota, Indiana, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, South Carolina, Nevada, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Georgia

Daily new cases are down 16% over the last 14 days (7 day moving average)
And down 78% from the July 18 peak.

Daily new deaths are down 13% over the last 14 days (7 day moving average)
and down 55% since the August 5 peak
(some say deaths are a lagging indicator, reflecting new case peaks a month to 2 months later)

DeSatan is so much better than any other in statistics squelching and manipulation, and fooling so many people
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/tracker/overview
2nd lowest test rate at 1.1 tests per thousand, along with Oregon and Pennsylvania

The 3 states with test rates of 1.1 per 1000
Oregon has 6.3 new cases per 100k
Pennsylvania has 8.3 new cases per 100K,
Florida has 10.3 new cases per 100k

Florida is 12th highest in test positivty at 10.2% (that's bad, the U.S. overall is about 4.7%)
https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/usa

BTW, for the curious, as for #1, Nevada has the lowest test rate in the U.S. at 1.0 tests per thousand
with 13.1 new cases per 100k (ranking 26th in new cases per 100k)

50 states' minicharts "map" page, alternative to the NY Times from John Hopkins University
The below "map" of the 50 states' minicharts (which are scaled by daily new cases PER CAPITA), is from the John Hopkins U. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/new-cases-50-states -- at that page you can click on individual states on the "map". Showing 3-day moving average of new cases. I prefer the nytimes' charts which are 7 day moving averages)

Even John Hopkins is stooping so low as to make Florida look good, along with the New York Times.

...per capita as reported by John Hopkins.

So, DeSantis is buying into Trump's view that if you do not test for COVID, then there is less COVID.

5. Yes, Florida is #7 in daily new deaths per capita, 7 day moving average

Reaping the inevitable results of being #1 or #2 in daily new cases per capita about 2 months ago.
but fortunately declining (deaths down 13% over the last 14 days and down 55% since the August 5 peak)

But unfortunately I don't see how it cannot all start climbing soon -- first cases will rise, and then deaths will follow, given DeSatan's new herd mentality policies.

Deaths per 100k, 7 day moving average,
#7 Florida- 2.7
#10 Texas- 2.2
#29 California- 1.2
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html
with the "Deaths" tab selected above the table of states

Interestingly, same number of tests per capita as Oregon and Pennsylvania at 1.1 per thousand.

6. In CA, You Have Some Cities and Counties That Are Anti-Mask...

...even though the State government is generally taking COVID seriously. In places like Florida and Georgia, you have the State government being very pro-reopen, while individual cities or counties might be trying to set up more stringent mask requirements. Of course, we have the federal government setting the tone with conflicting guidance. The sad thing is that it appears that many Republican leaders are trying to goose their economy just before the election for political purposes. Thus, you have states suddenly reopening even though they have just begun to slow down the spread of COVID.

The fact that you have individuals states with more weekly deaths than countries with larger populations like Canada, Germany or Italy just underscores just how bad the U.S. response is. When German with 88 million people or Italy with over 60 million people have less deaths then several U.S. states that is a clear indictment of Trump.
