'Enormous betrayal': GOP senators furious with Trump for trying to cut a deal with Nancy Pelosi

On Saturday, Politico reported Senate Republicans are enraged that Trump went around them to try to negotiate a coronavirus stimulus deal with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) l...................
............
At least two GOP senators warned White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that spending as much as $2 trillion on a big bill could backfire at the ballot box, reported Burgess Everett and Jake Sherman..................
.............
Theres no appetite right now to spend the White House number or the House number, said Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) on the call. Meanwhile, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), who chairs the Senate Republican Conference, said it would be seen as an an enormous betrayal by our supporters if Trump agrees to anything that expands Affordable Care Act programs to deliver relief something that was done in the previous bipartisan round of stimulus, the CARES Act.
Trumps reversal on negotiating a deal came after his initial refusal triggered a stock market crash, widespread outrage, and speculation that he might have thrown away his chances of re-election.

(11,683 posts)This is the straw which broke the camel's back? I don't think so!
If Trump were on his way to a victory the Rs would be saying "This goes against our morals but we will allow this deal with evil Nancy, for the people, to pave our way to re-election."
But, they smell defeat, the absolute stench of resounding death, as their scow goes down. So they cobble the few wits they have among them and say: Well this is a deal breaker Donald! We can't allow this! We are pulling our support for you.
PLEasssssse. After all the million cuts they've taken this far NOW they think it's too much!? No they want out at the last possible chance to separate from Trump as he goes down trashing wildly in a possible historic loss!

Did they actually think Trump gives a rat's ass about any of them?
After 4 years of sucking up to Trump and ignoring his obvious illegal activities, I would ask them if they've given any consideration as to how they've betrayed the nation?

(291 posts)The slow unraveling of the GOP brings me a smile. Year after year, election after election, we've had to stand back and watch the losing side continue to make the rules and bend the rules and cheat. Finally, it is backfiring.
It is time for them to lose and lose bigly. Leopards Eating People's Faces party, I'm loving every bit of it.

(7,403 posts)The stock market plunge was fully expected when Trump ended the talks and that would spook Trump - who didn't see that coming. But is was McConnell who orchestrated calling off the talks so it seems the whole GOP Senate got blindsided by the predictable outcome. Now they are caught between a rock and a hard place of their own making. Silly them.

(1,789 posts)Get a mirror, gop schmucks, it was you. They wanted to have their cake, eat it too, and have another cake. They didn't want the calamity of having no bill pass but they didn't have the votes to pass the low cost bill they wanted. Despite the Democrats having the leverage and compromising by cutting the cost, they held firm and passed the buck of negotiating to Trump. "Whatever Trump agrees to sign, we'll pass", paraphrasing McConnell quote.
Go on record voting against needed assistance, or having no vote at all. The ads just write themselves.

(11,518 posts)The ratfuckers are pissed because there's a chance the Affordable Care Act might give a bit of help to Americans who need it.... oh my god, we can't have that now can we.
It's understandable (in a reprehensible sort of way) that they don't like being passed over for negotiations, but the fact that they don't want to do anything to help Americans is totally ridiculous. SCREW YOU Moscow Mitch and all of your fellow ratfuckers.
