Trump hoping to strike last-minute nuclear arms deal with Putin before election: report

Source: The Hill

President Trump is hoping to strike a last-minute nuclear arms deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin before the Nov. 3 election, Axios reported on Sunday.

U.S. national security adviser Robert O'Brien and Russia's Nikolai Patrushev met in Geneva on Oct. 2, and the success of the meeting prompted Trump's arms control envoy Marshall Billingslea to make a last-minute trip to Helsinki and to adjust another trip in Asia.

A source familiar with the discussions told Axios Trump's administration thinks it has an agreement in principle that has earned Putin and Patrushev's approval. Officials told the news outlet they think the agreement could be completed within a week once talks resume.

But Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's deputy foreign minister, disagreed saying "there are still huge differences in approaches, including to the central elements of such an agreement."

He’ll probably give away the house to claim victory. The good news is that voters don’t care about this issue right now.

Nobody's going to notice an arms control treaty right now, there are more pressing matters such as a pandemic and unemployment.

They had a military parade in Pyongyang this weekend featuring a new missile that will be capable of reaching the interior of the US with multiple nuclear warheads. Kim says he's tired of waiting for Trump to negotiate a deal and are continuing at full speed to develop new weapons.

Meanwhile, Trump focuses on Moscow where Putin will pretend to freeze nuclear development to help his puppet stay in office. I don't know how Trump shaking hands with his brother from another Yaya can be transformed into new votes.

The others who've taken Russian money can be rounded up under...

52 USC 30121 "... "It shall be unlawful for a foreign national directly or through any other person to make any contribution of money or other thing of value, or to promise expressly or impliedly to make any such contribution, in connection with an election to any political office or in connection with any election ... for any political office..."

the penalty for which is a slap on the wrist. "Any such member, employee, or other person who knowingly and willfully violates the provisions of subparagraph (A) shall be fined not more than $5,000."

Biden's congress should pass a new law that disqualifies those who break 52 USC 30121 from seeking any public office thereafter.

President Obama Announces the New START Treaty
March 26, 2010 at 12:30 PM ET by Jesse Lee

Summary:
President Obama announces a new comprehensive arms control agreement with Russia.
[[nid:10308]]

After concluding a phone call with Russian President Medvedev, President Obama announced the new START treaty during a press briefing Secretary of State Clinton, Secretary of Defense Gates, and Admiral Mullen. The new Treaty, which he called “the most comprehensive arms control agreement in nearly two decades,” is a major step to reduce the number and role of nuclear weapons and to set the stage for further reductions in global nuclear stockpiles and materials. The President has made the pledge to reduce the threat of nuclear weapons worldwide a key goal of his foreign policy approach, including a major speech in Prague laying out his vision during his first trip to Europe

President Obama explained the significance of the new agreement:

In many ways, nuclear weapons represent both the darkest days of the Cold War, and the most troubling threats of our time. Today, we’ve taken another step forward by -- in leaving behind the legacy of the 20th century while building a more secure future for our children. We’ve turned words into action. We’ve made progress that is clear and concrete. And we’ve demonstrated the importance of American leadership -- and American partnership -- on behalf of our own security, and the world’s.

Broadly speaking, the new START treaty makes progress in several areas. It cuts -- by about a third -- the nuclear weapons that the United States and Russia will deploy. It significantly reduces missiles and launchers. It puts in place a strong and effective verification regime. And it maintains the flexibility that we need to protect and advance our national security, and to guarantee our unwavering commitment to the security of our allies.

With this agreement, the United States and Russia -- the two largest nuclear powers in the world -- also send a clear signal that we intend to lead. By upholding our own commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, we strengthen our global efforts to stop the spread of these weapons, and to ensure that other nations meet their own responsibilities.

Specifically, the new START Treaty will specify limits of:

  • 1,550 deployed warheads, which is about 30% lower than the upper warhead limit of the Moscow Treaty;
  • 800 deployed and non-deployed intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launchers, submarine launched ballistic missile (SLBM) launchers, and heavy bombers equipped for nuclear weapons; and
  • 700 for deployed ICBMs, SLBMs, and heavy bombers equipped for nuclear weapons.

So after years of caging children, instigating riots by manufacturing fake "threats" and then staging photo ops by using the military to clear the photo area, coddling domestic terrorists, embracing the word's dictators, initiating the most extreme trade war in recent memory, weaponizing the most consequential virus in a century, there is now some last minute effort to come up with a follow-on "nuclear arms control treaty" 3 weeks before the election?

The current GOP do NOT know or care to "govern".
