Utah hospital officials warn state in 'precarious' situation with record COVID-19 hospitalizations

SALT LAKE CITY The day after Utah reached its record number of current COVID-19 hospitalizations, health care officials warned that the states hospital systems are under increasing stress as cases continue to surge.
We are in a very precarious situation, Dr. Russell Vinik, University of Utah Health chief medical operations officer, told the Deseret News on Monday.
I think that we can say that we are pretty close to 100% of capacity and its varying from day to day.
Although teens and young adults contributed to the spike soon after school resumed for the fall, all other age groups are now seeing their cases surge. The average hospitalized COVID-19 patient continues to be in the 45 to 64 age group. About 2⁄3 of patients require treatment in a nonintensive care setting, while the other third require more intensive care, Vinik said.

(17,837 posts)It seems that they had a Trump Train and rally with very little masks in sight even as people congregated closely together. Now, if these were BLM protesters with masks, Republicans would be all over the news blaming them for the spread.

About an hour before the parade began, hundreds of people gathered in the school district parking lot, where a few vendors sold Trump 2020 flags and other merchandise. Music ranging from country music to hip hop sounded from all sides of the lot and people of all ages donned red Make America Great Again hats and Trump 2020 shirts. Throughout the event, whooping, hollering and horns beeping could be heard.
After the parking lot filled up, vehicles continued to show up lining Tabernacle Street; while other cars, lifted trucks, motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles circled the block and weaved in between the crowds in the parking lot.
The parade, which began at noon and finished around 3 p.m., coursed east on St. George Boulevard, then took Red Cliffs Drive and Telegraph Road through Washington City before ending at Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane and looped back.
