A 6.5-foot asteroid will zoom past Earth just before Election Day but astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson says it's nothing to worry about.
"Asteroid 2018VP1, a refrigerator-sized space-rock, is hurtling towards us at more than 40,000 km/hr. It may buzz-cut Earth on Nov 2, the day before the Presidential Election," he said.
NASA has previously said it has a 0.41% chance of entering our atmosphere.
"Its not big enough to cause harm. So if the World ends in 2020, it wont be the fault of the Universe," Tyson said.

None the less I think some people might try to say it's an omen.
On edit: It looks like Murdoch's NY Post is freaking out about this

(101,307 posts)It's not news, of course, because it is 100% not going to affect anything. It's an interesting detail of how some really small things have been mapped in space.

"It currently has a 0.41% chance of entering our planets atmosphere, but if it did, it would disintegrate due to its extremely small size," NASA said.

Unless, of course this rock is aerodynamically designed! LOL!

(64,995 posts)I think we'd have to add about 200 zeroes between the decimal and the 4 to get the "chance" it would hit the surface!
As somebody else noted, the amazing thing is our tech allows us to see something the size of a big fridge that far away. That's awesome!
