Barack Obama to hold first in-person event for Democratic candidate Joe Biden

Source: Associated Press

By AP • last updated: 21/10/2020 - 08:29

Former US President Barack Obama is returning to Philadelphia on Wednesday for his first in-person 2020 campaign event for Joe Biden.

In 2016, the man known as one of the Democratic Party’s strongest orators delivered Hillary Clinton’s closing argument in the same place — at a rally for thousands the night before Election Day on Independence Mall.

Now, with the coronavirus pandemic upending campaigning, Obama will be speaking to a much smaller crowd at a drive-in rally, where supporters will listen to him over the radio inside their cars.

The format reflects the challenge Democrats face in ginning up enthusiasm and getting out the vote in a year when they’ve eschewed big rallies in favour of small, socially distanced events, drawing a contrast with US President Donald Trump and Republicans on the coronavirus.

and in the 2nd round of questions on other topics, the subject came up about the Obama event preparations here and a reported asked if Jim Kenney (our mayor) would be going. It was mentioned that this would be a "drive-in" event down at the Phillies' stadium (am guessing the parking lot) - Citizen's Bank Park - and Kenney said he expected he would be there so that he could (quote) "See MY President".

OMG how is it so satisfying to have a President who can speak in complete sentences and make SO MUCH SENSE?

After GW it was like a breath of fresh air and Trump makes GW look really smart in comparison. Or at least not as mean.

It will be nice to hear him again and you just know that he will be poking the Trumpy Bear 🐻 with a stick. Should be fun to see the reaction from the blow hard.

..welcome.

And you and I will enjoy his speech. And millions more..

But remember, there are millions that will consider it pompous,

wordy, and bullshit. These are the real problem....
