Revealed: ex-members of Amy Coney Barrett faith group tell of trauma and sexual abuse

People of Praise hire lawyers to investigate historical sexual abuse allegations as former members speak of emotional torment.
Amy Coney Barretts nomination to the supreme court has prompted former members of her secretive faith group, the People of Praise, to come forward and share stories about emotional trauma and in at least one case sexual abuse they claim to have suffered at the hands of members of the Christian group.
In the wake of the allegations, the Guardian has learned that the charismatic Christian organization, which is based in Indiana, has hired the law firm of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan to conduct an independent investigation into sexual abuse claims on behalf of People of Praise.
The historic sexual abuse allegations and claims of emotional trauma do not pertain specifically to Barrett, who has been a lifelong member of the charismatic group, or her family.

The worlds they close around them can become awful twisty.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

(8,452 posts)She is just a vessel. Just like her and other women's bodies should be used for breeding, she is now a vessel to take our nation back 200 years. When we get there, she will be just fine and dandy in being subservient again. For now she is doing the Lords Dirty work, rolling back Roe, ending ACA, advancing even more unrestrained power to Corporate Persons.
This judge I do believe understands her role should be that of chattel or a broodmare. I believe her judicial ambition was actually not one of personal value (I believe she interprets her true value as one of procreator and taking care of the kitchen womenfolk) , but rather advancing what she believed the best way to turn America into a theocracy. Once theocracy is achieved I believe she will step down and let white men run the show.
I have a daughter and will fight like fucking hell before anyone controls her life or body. She has a chance to achieve her dreams thanks to people like Justice Ginsberg. Now we are faced with the polar opposite. My daughter is 18, registered to vote in Pennsylvania, she is pulling the lever for the first time in two weeks. We have NOT told her what to think or how to vote, she has her own mind and while she is clearly not outspokenly political I feel safe where she'll go with this all important decision. It will be a first vote, one I think she will be proud of.
