Lesley Stahl says Trump and Pence insulted her and '60 Minutes'
Source: Politico
In Stahls interview with Pence, which took place after Trump cut short his earlier conversation with Stahl and would not film what was supposed to be a joint appearance, the correspondent scolds Pence for offering campaign talking points in response to her questions.
This was not a rally. This was not just a campaign speech to the public. This was supposed to be an interview, and the same with the president, she told Pence. And I feel that you both have insulted 60 Minutes and me by not answering any of our questions and by giving set campaign speeches that weve heard both of you give at rallies and not answering our questions.

(4,673 posts)the intent agreed upon by both parties were interviews, but neither would answer the questions and then go ahead and show clips and contentiousness. It would not make them look horrible, but illustrate their baseline horribleness.

Have I missed where you use such words to cover male reporters? Oh, wait, how many male reporters have dared directly challenge the traitor and his lap dog?

(2,008 posts)means he doesn't have any "practice" at answering them. So, in a situation like the present, late in a trailing campaign, when he's forced to do it to get access to free airtime, he can't handle it. He just acts like a petulant brat who can't handle the fact that he's not getting obsequious gloves-off treatment like he got from the Faux Noise toadies for the last 4 years.
And on CBS's end, their self-justification for giving him a forum is likely that they're letting him show exactly what he is (see "petulant brat" above). At least, unlike 4 years ago, they're giving time to both candidates to answer challenging questions instead of airing his ridiculous rallies.

Leslie must have felt dirty after she was done, like she'd been wading through some kind of muck, and happy Trump left, because he is SUCH a sleazebag. She's the one I feel bad for, certainly, and Trump/Pence did insult her.

(33,291 posts)either they simply don't know the answer (Trump) or know the answer is indefensible (Pence).
I don't know that I, or 60 minutes, have ever heard Trump give a "substantive answer". He responds with slander or hyperbolic bullshit.

(13,036 posts)the Con's campaign is broke to lie and spin and self-promote. Bad calculation. Leslie Stahle can be tough when she wants to be. Obviously she took a page from Savannah Guthrie and dared to challenge the Con.

(11,563 posts)...have you noticed how many people, especially prominent and ostensibly non-partisan, like Ms Stahl, feel so incredibly free to call out these hate mongers? In the past, journalists, among others, showed deference to the Office, and to the person inhabiting it. Not any more.

(5,377 posts)to any and all questions.
If the question doesn't have a ready made answer, or just doesn't computer in their brain, or maybe is threatening, then any answer is trotted out.
Making the noises seems to be important, actually answering the question isn't.
But living with someone - the wife - who always answers a question with another question, I've learnt my way around that.
Simple example:
Me: would you like a cup of coffee?
She: why, you having one?
or
She: I don't think there is enough milk is there?
or
She: Don't use that cheap coffee!
or
All three questions and directives.
Now its:
Me: I'm making myself a cup of coffee. I've checked, there is plenty of milk, and I'm going to use the good coffee. And yes, I will rinse your cup out first.
Would you like one too?
. . . and blow me down, sometimes I get a simple 'yes' or 'no' in response!
