Source: Political Wire

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told the New York Times that she briefly considered running for reelection as an independent but ultimately decided to stick with her party because of loyalty to “the New England brand of Republicanism.”

I wonder what Margaret Chase Smith would think if she could see how awful the Republican Party is today and what kind of person they elected as president.

BTW no doubt Sen. Smith was a supporter of Planned Parenthood too.

Sorry lady, but what have you to show for your 23 years in the Senate? From her record, she's always put her party's interests first, not Maine's.

needs re-branding. Its sales have been off for the past two decades and no one trusts it.

Back in the days of Charlie Bass and Lincoln Chafee, there was such a thing as "New England Republicanism," but there isn't any more. Bass and Chafee were pro-choice and pro-environment, even if they were with the Rs on most other issues.

What does Collins even stand for? I think she just stands for getting re-elected.

At this point, we have one party (Democratic Party), and one craven, self-serving, autocratic cult (Republican Party). I didn't love the two party system (I'd prefer multiple choices), but it seemed somewhat more functional than the one party+one cult system we have now...
