Lisa Murkowski says she will to vote to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court

Source: CBS News

Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska announced Saturday that she will vote to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, despite previously expressing opposition to filling a vacancy so close to the election.

Murkowski and Senator Susan Collins of Maine were the only two Republicans to raise concerns about filling a Supreme Court vacancy when Barrett was nominated by President Trump last month. Both senators voted against moving forward with the confirmation process this weekend.

"Frankly, I've lost that procedural fight, so what I can do now is be consistent, and oppose a process that should not move forward," Murkowski said, explaining why she has opposed these procedural votes. However, she said that she would vote "yes" in the final confirmation vote, based on Barrett's qualifications.

"While I oppose the process that has led us to this point, I do not hold it against her as an individual who has navigated the gauntlet with grace, skill and humility," Murkowski said in a speech on the Senate floor.

So, she has. Lisa will run in 2022. In 2016, she failed to defeat Joe Miller (Tea Party) in the GOP primary and ran as an IDP write-in. She attracted DEM money and votes in the election, since the DEM was weaker than Miller. And, she won.

For the 2022 election, DEMs must get a strong candidate and retire Lisa.

She lost the primary in the tea party wave of 2010 and won as a write-in candidate.

There has always been bad blood between the Palins and Murkowskis, ever since Palin defeated Frank Murkowski in the 2006 primary in Alaska.

Ironically, Republicans in Alaska don’t really like Murkowski. She was saved in 2010 by independents and Democrats who voted for her.

since she's in a LOT of trouble right now , and the repukes have enough votes without her, so there's a chance that she'll get permission from Moscow Mitch to either abstain or vote NO in a frantic attempt to save her seat. People in Maine remember her Kavanaugh slap-in-the-face to them and her polling has bene under 50% and falling.

I expect Lisa will be one of the first to clear out of the US on the Republican AirLift. Too many discarded chances to be a real American. Wonder how much money she has accumulated in bribes since 2016?

Maybe we should hold a pool to see where all the Repubs go -- Argentina, China, or Russia?

She claims to oppose the process, but never said anything negative about the nominee or claimed that she would vote against her or withhold her vote.

The wingnut freepers went crazy knocking her, without (as usual) listening to the smarmy weasel-words she actually said rather than looking at what we all knew she was really going to do.

She and Collins are quite a pair aren't they?

Looks like Joe will have to re-pack the court with at least 3 Democrats to balance the Republican packing. This is assuming we win the Presidency and the Senate.

And also several hundred Federal judges.
If he doesn't do it, everything the Democrats try to do will be challenged in court, where the partisan judges and justices will bury their best efforts, just like Mitch did.

In modern times the winner would have to be Bryan White who JFK appointed. He was a college football star who became a friend of the Kennedy family. He was a mediocre contract lawyer who never was in any courtroom but JFK loved to play football with him at family gatherings. In those days there were no hearings and he was approved by a voice vote.

Betrayals of women's interests only feel most wrong when powerful women sell out.
But they're just doing their job.

Like Barrett and Palin, they're doing what they've been trained to do -- stay in power by serving male power interests.
