Fauci Says We're Still In First Wave

Source: Political Wire

Dr Anthony Fauci told Yahoo News the country is still experiencing its first wave of coronavirus infections, as cases surge in dozens of states.

Said Fauci: “I look at it more as an elongated and exacerbation of the original first wave. We never really cleared and got down to a very low baseline… No matter how you look at it, it’s not good news.”

If you look at our curve relative to the European or Chinese curves, they all dropped down to zero (or near zero).

We never dropped below 20,000 (2/3 of the first peak). After the second peak, we4 dropped very briefly, on weekends, to ~30,000 (a bit less than half of the weekday peak of near 80,000).

When we start wtih 20,000 live cases, the next doubling is to 40,000, then to 80,000. It's only a matter of time - and it's a much shorter time to get to really big numbers when we start with such a high infected population.

It has been all one big increasingly large wave.
If cases pick up more again, as they are in every country, the US is not at at good place. The fact that the US did not get to "a very low baseline" during the first wave, through stricter management and competent leadership, means their cases will go up exponentially from a much higher percentage position than other countries got down to. It could get to catastrophic numbers.

I'm someone who can get a feel of what happening with charts. Had a lot of fun with bitcoin. Still having fun with it.

But if Fauci says this is still the first wave... I'm terrified. The second wave is going to be a catastrophic avalanche of pain and death. Please keep safe.

with peaks and valleys. The European countries are mostly homogeneous and small while the US has 50 very different and diverse states run by governors from progressives to right wingers taking very different actions.

...until you get infections down on a sustained basis like Italy. Saying we are in a 2nd or 3rd wave suggests that we got a handle on a first wave, but he'll let's drop all social distancing restrictions because Trump is bored talking about COVID-19.

They never really got rid of it either. They are having increases like Western Europe is seeing but Europe had controlled it. Now Eastern Europe is seeing the most deaths when they never really had a lot last Spring.
