Rand Paul: Seniors Should Be Served Meals by COVID-Survivors

Source: Daily Beast

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Dr. Anthony Fauci’s most dedicated troll in Congress, took his skepticism of COVID-19 experts to the campaign trail on Sunday, telling a Virginia crowd matter-of-factly that cloth masks don’t work and defending President Trump’s repeated statements that the virus will simply go away.

“I’m not telling you not to wear a mask,” Paul said at a rally for Nick Freitas, a Republican candidate for Congress in central Virginia, which was streamed on Freitas’ Facebook page. “The cloth masks… I’m just telling you the truth, they don’t work. Ninety-seven percent of viruses go through a cloth mask.”

...snip...

The Kentucky senator also offered a vision of how the country might adapt to the virus: staffing restaurants and cruise ships with people who have already had COVID-19, arguing that their assumed immunity from the virus would make such situations far safer.

“If I owned a restaurant, I’d have a whole wing for senior citizens or for anybody who is worried about getting sick, and I would say, all my servers have already had it,” Paul told the crowd. “If I had a cruise ship... everybody would have had the infection that works on the boat.”

How can the people in your state elect a perfectly Sane Governor, yet still elect a couple of HORRIBLE & CORRUPT TO THE CORE Senators, Year after Year after Year.

How come the race for Turtle is still a blowout? I don't get it.

He's been there forever for several reasons. He's a known commodity, even if he sucks. The ads he's been running against Amy McGrath are in the same league as trump's lies--"She's just too liberal for KY." Even though she's been running some really good ones herself.

She hasn't gotten out around the state enough. I haven't heard that she's been in our neck of the woods in southern KY at all, or over on the western side of the state. Even though McConnell rarely leaves Louisville (fairly progressive) when he's around, people just don't know that much about her.

McConnell has a boatload of money. The rich white guys in cigar smokey rooms like their status quo.

Not enough people vote here, except in the major cities (which are also the college towns), of Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green. Rural attitudes are dreadfully uninformed, or obstinate. For instance, I had a concrete pad poured for a new garage last week. One of the guys was smoking, and trying to pass the time of day with me. I kept backing up from him, and finally said--I have asthma, I can't be around smokers. And that if I got Covid on top of it, I was a goner (didn't grab a mask because I thought I'd be far enough away outside). So then, the whole gang had to join in. "This virus will disappear once the election is over." "Yeah, it'll be just like the swine flu, and whatever that other one was. You never hear about those anymore." Even though it pained me greatly, I didn't say anything. I wanted my concrete work finished.

We definitely have a ways to go, but I find hope in the younger population that break with their parents prejudices. The ones that buy in to the deplorable mindset tend to be blue collar (not that there's anything wrong with that), and under-educated. They've never been anywhere else. My trumpian brother, who I still love dearly, is not going to change (he has a bunch of redeeming qualities, and we are the last 2 left of the family). But his daughter, my niece, went away to college, got her Masters degree in psychology, great job, is as liberal as her Aunt Bayard. We commiserate with each other.

they'll incur from being treated as they suffer the disease. Your Supreme Court is eliminating the Affordable Care Act as soon as Moscow Mitch jams the crazy lady into the ninth SCOTUS chair, and anyone who tests positive is designated "pre-existing condition." Go back under your rock, loser.

There are also a ton of side effects even after you recover, including chronic fatigue.

Mon Oct 26, 2020, 04:22 PM

I don't care where good ideas come from.
I live across the street from the back of a nursing home (it was always my polling place till this year!) that lost a lot of people to Covid. Others survived it.

There's a group of marginally elderly people with amputation issues or surgery rehab or noplace else to go who hang out on a roofed, walled outdoor patio across the street. They play good classic rock and laugh a lot. They're loud. They have all survived Covid there.
My daughter asked why I didn't complain. I said if I were there I'd be right with them. I've lived here 30 years, and I hear my white-gloved, blue-haired aunts saying, "there but for the grace of God go I."

I have wondered if there's a role for post-Covid folks in specialized situations. I don't like that until you've had it you have to huddle in isolation like my huisband and I do. Two classes -- the fearful and the invulnerable -- are an ugly outcome. Maybe the protection an infection incident gives you is temporary.

So would anyone like to imagine with me how this sort of fact can be managed well for all of us?

in the atmosphere, too small to be caught by the fibers of masks. They don’t know,or choose to ignore, the scientific fact that the viruses float not naked, but on droplets and aerosols that ARE mostly large enough to be trapped by the fibers.

Hospital workers were wearing cloth masks for 8 decades prior to COVID.
If 97% of the time, the masks did next to nothing, hospital workers would have caught nearly every viral disease for 80 years! It would have become the most dangerous job in the world!
N-95 masks are better, but to suggest cloth is useless is blindingly stupid! So, is Paul.
