Joe Biden will travel to Iowa Friday, underscoring close presidential race
Source: Des Moines Register
According to his campaign, Biden plans to discuss bringing Americans together to address the crises facing the country.
Further details were not yet available, but the last-minute visit underscores how competitive the race for president has become in Iowa. Although Trump carried the state by 9 percentage points in 2016, a September Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll showed him tied with Biden at 47% to 47%.
Biden's visit will come the day after Republican Vice President Mike Pence plans to hold a "Make America Great Again" rally at the Des Moines International Airport.

(100 posts)I think coming to Iowa is smart as we have a very close Senate race as well with Greenfield holding small leads over the incumbent (R) Ernst in most polls. I have noticed that Biden has ran a bit behind Greenfield in a number of polls here which I find interesting as I can't imagine a Trump/Greenfield voter anymore than I could imagine a Biden/Ernst voter. I do wish he would have came a little earlier in the cycle as so many of us in Iowa have either voted by mail or participated in early voting by this point. You would be amazed at the ad campaigns here in the Des Moines market. After the World Series game ended last night, there were 3 consecutive Ernst commercials that aired. I noticed a week or two prior a similar stretch of Ernst ads immediately following Sunday Night Football. Greenfield's ads are frequent as well (and largely better than Ernst's) and you can see how important both sides of the aisle feel this Senate seat is.
Now having said that I think it's smart that Biden is coming, I do worry a bit about the strategy at this point in the campaign. I don't want a surprise loss in Michigan, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania because Biden is spending time in Iowa and Texas with less than a week to go until Election Day. I also would point out that Minnesota was shockingly close in '16 as well and a visit there (despite what the polls show) might make sense. In short, I wonder if Biden should be worrying about locking up the Electoral College (MI, WI, PA) right now as opposed to attempting to expand his paths to victory and/or widen the Electoral College victory. Of course, the Biden campaign has access to different polls than we do, so perhaps I should just assume they know what they are doing.
This last week will be long and stressful, it's long past time for this Trump nightmare to end!
