The Nebraska Republican Party made it clear Tuesday that its ballot drop boxes at an Omaha rally for President Donald Trump will not be "official" boxes.
Nebraska Democrats criticized the state GOP's decision to describe the boxes as "official" in an email to people registered to attend Tuesday night's rally. The email said Douglas and Sarpy County voters could return early ballots to the boxes during Trump's rally at Eppley Airfield.
The state GOP, after receiving questions from reporters and election officials, sent rally attendees a second email clarifying that the boxes were not "official" but rather provided by the Trump campaign.
Only drop boxes provided by election officials in Nebraska's 93 counties can be called "official," according to Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen and Douglas and Sarpy County election officials.

(115,924 posts)by anyone other than a government-designated, official poll representative or someone who is authorized to drop off someone else's ballot. In my state, for example, you can drop off ballots for up to three other voters but you have to show identification with your name and signature. So if the state GOP, which is not a government agency authorized to act on behalf of voters, is collecting ballots at this rally and tries to drop them off in a county dropbox or turn them in at a collection site, can those ballots be counted? Can ballots be counted if they are deposited in a dropbox other than one for the voter's own county? They could be fucking themselves with this.

(7,404 posts)For instance, a Republican official could fix errors so a ballot qualifies rather than being rejected. Or they could even steam open the envelope, examine the ballot and alter it before resealing it. Talk about an opportunity for fraud. Custody is tightly protected as it should be. After all, the idea is to have integrity built into the voting process and this fails miserably on that count.
