Report: Trump admin document says Billie Eilish is destroying our country and everything we care about
Today, the Washington Post reported that a $250 ad campaign ostensibly designed to "defeat despair" caused by the coronavirus pandemic was tailored boost Trump's re-election chances. Little surprise there, right? As Trump's appointees and contractors considered which celebrities to ask to star in the ads, candidates were flat-out rejected if they were seen to be opponents of the president and his policies.
According to leaked documents obtained by the Post, the Trump administration was not keen on asking Billie Eilish to participate: the documents describe Eilish as not a Trump Supporter and destroying our country and everything we care about." It's not revealed how the Trump administration reached this equally terrifying and hilarious conclusion.
Out of 274 celebrities considered, 10 were approved. Other rejected celebrities included Jennifer (for her Super Bowl performance which criticized Trump's immigration policies), Justin Timberlake ("publicly endorsed Obama and supports gay marriage," according to the Trump admin document), and Christina Aguilera (is an Obama-supporting Democrat and a gay rights supporting liberal). Celebrities who made the cut included actor Dennis Quaid, Dr. Oz, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
The entire campaign has been put on hold, and none of the filmed ads have aired on television. The brains behind the campaign, Trumps Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Caputo, is currently on a 60-day leave after a Facebook Live broadcast in which he baselessly told Trump supporters to prepare for an armed insurrection led by left-wing groups.

(10,572 posts)Eilish's debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019), debuted atop the Billboard 200 and became the best-performing album of 2019 in the US.[2] It also reached number one in the UK. The album contains six Billboard Hot 100 top 40 songs: "When the Party's Over", "Bury a Friend", "Wish You Were Gay", "Xanny" and "Bad Guy", the last of which became her first number one single in the US. In 2020, she performed the theme song "No Time to Die" for the James Bond film of the same name, which became her first to peak at number one in the UK.
Her accolades include five Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, two Guinness World Records, three MTV Video Music Awards, and one Brit Award. She is the youngest person and second person ever to win the four main Grammy categories Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year in the same year. In 2019, Time magazine placed her on their inaugural "Time 100 Next" list. Additionally, Eilish is the 23rd biggest artist of the digital singles era, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, selling 37.5 million singles in the US alone

(33,643 posts)Where they show the play counts of artists; 10 most popular songs (although there's a time component where an artists more recently popular stuff gets a leg up over older tracks with more listens in terms of ordering and/or making the top 10, so there's that).
Safe to say the Spotify is very popular with young people. All people really, but especially young people.
How about we check the listens for an artist one would assume is very popular ...
Or perhaps a staggering popular and beloved classic rock group ...
And then here's listens to Billy Eilish ...
Wherein, when I did a rough count of Billie's two biggest hits alone ... they have close to as many listens as the entire Top 10 of the Beatles. And 7 songs more popular than any Beatles song. Granted the Beatles have a LOT more songs so I'm sure their total listens are higher overall. But yeah ... Billie's pretty friggin' popular

And with all due respect to someone who is apparently a very talented young person, I somehow doubt she has the reach to destroy our country and everything we care about. Oh, wait. I keep forgetting that the Republicans constantly claim someone else is doing exactly what they are doing.

(20,491 posts)Degenerate art (German: Entartete Kunst) was a term adopted in the 1920s by the Nazi Party in Germany to describe modern art. During the dictatorship of Adolf Hitler, German modernist art, including many works of internationally renowned artists, was removed from state-owned museums and banned in Nazi Germany on the grounds that such art was an "insult to German feeling", un-German, Jewish, or Communist in nature. Those identified as degenerate artists were subjected to sanctions that included being dismissed from teaching positions, being forbidden to exhibit or to sell their art, and in some cases being forbidden to produce art.
klook
(12,154 posts)MoMA recently presented an exhibit of some of these works:
https://www.moma.org/calendar/exhibitions/3868
Here's a painting the loutish dumbasses (the Nazis, that is) thought was "degenerate":
André Derain. Valley of the Lot at Vers. 1912
André Derains Valley of the Lot at Vers was removed from the Wallraf-Richartz Museum in Cologne. In 1939, The Museum of Modern Art purchased the painting from Karl Buchholz, one of four art dealers acting on behalf of the German Government, and his partner Curt Valentin, a German-Jewish immigrant who had settled in New York after fleeing Germany. Feeling fortunate at having acquired the painting, MoMA director Alfred H. Barr, Jr. stressed the continuity of the work within the French tradition, stating that "the Derain painting, far from being radical, is a severely disciplined landscape in a modern classical style derived from Cézanne and Poussin."

Taylor Swift has some great songs, as does Lady Gaga and Lizzo. Beyonce is incredible in terms of production. And I must admit that even Miley Cyrus has grown on me with some of her more recent work.
But Billie Eilish...I don't dislike her--and I'm glad she has emerged as an outspoken advociate--but I just don't find her music very interesting. For one, it's barely audible. I'd consider her more of a spoken word artist than a singer.

She is pro-LGBTQ in a big way (even though she's straight). She gets a TON of crap online from haters, to the point that she is afraid when she wins awards because the hate gets amped up to 11. And she wins a lot of awards, and for good reason.

Singer Adam Levine is a Liberal democrat who supported Obama and fights for gay rights, but he appealed to the general population as well as to super spreaders. Also popular with super spreaders, singer Lady Gaga hasnt specifically claimed any political side, although she vocally supported Hillary in 2016, according to the list. Actor and singer Neil Patrick Harris was popular among the LGBTQ community as well as the general populace. He also Performed at the Republican National Convention in 2016, the document notes, but appears to be a liberal Democrat.
