Pennsylvania Republicans leaders dismiss Trump fraud claims, but call for audit

Source: ABC News

Pennsylvania Republican leaders on Friday did not join President Donald Trump and his close allies in accusing the state’s election officials of fraud, but did step forward to call for an audit of the election.

Two leaders of the Republican-controlled legislature said they had concerns about the conduct of Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, a Democrat, who they say overstepped her role by issuing a series of last-minute instructions that revised election rules. Soon after, Boockvar ordered an audit.

"I have no knowledge of any voter fraud and I have no knowledge of any misdeeds, other than the process [by] which the Department of State ran in this election," Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman, told reporters on a Zoom call about concerns with the administration of the election.

The lawmakers' chief concern, as other Republicans expressed in court, has been a series of accommodations Boockvar granted in the days before the election. On her guidance, some counties took steps to help voters fix ballots that had been submitted with errors -- a process called curing. Not all counties acted on her instructions, leading to "disparate" treatment of voters, they said.

So they're admitting that they believe it's a bad thing to allow more people's votes to be counted.

2016, it was fishy but they approved the outcome so that was OK.

And yes, they do not want the other side to vote.

is the result of gerrymandering. Democrats get more votes every 2 years and Republicans get more seats. My Rep. GT Thompson drinks oil and breathes methane and goes to fund raisers and that's about it. Democrats in his district have no chance of voting him out.

To what? Find the ballots that they DID help cure and eliminate them?

If anything, the DEMS should be screaming that SOME counties did not help in the curing process.

The beef seems to be that the curing wasn't applied equally. That should be on whoever decided not to follow the directive from SOS.

But fraud assumes a criminal intent, and would likely be done on a much grander scale.

I guarantee you, there was human error involved with statistically negligible results.

There was also rampant fraud, perpetrated by the Republicans, openly, and emanating from the turdblossom in the West Wing.

This audit Republicans are calling for and the canvass function that is performed by all election offices after every election? This sounds like PR to me -- calling for something that is already mandated by the process.

9. In Palm Beach County they do this too, contact you if there's a problem with your ballot.

I'm sure they do in a lot of other places too. With the picayune little details many GOP legislatures have mandated, they almost have to if they want enough people to participate in our democracy and the result reflect the will of the people.

But of course, they don't want that ... they don't even want a democracy or a representative republic anymore. The incredible thing is, they've convinced their idiot followers they don't want that either, that they just need a strong, Daddy type to tell them what to believe and how to act.

in WA state and they have a very rigorous protocol in place for helping make sure the will of the voter is expressed and counted. You are contacted if there is any ambiguity as to your marking of your ballot and if there is any question about the validity of the signature.

Their primary concern is that each voter's choices are discerned and each ballot is cast by the person named on the envelope. This happens in a primarily republican county.

A lot of these requirements are new and people, bless 'em, make mistakes. There should be the opportunity to correct those and make sure as many people participate in our democracy as possible. Few enough bother to vote as it is ... we need to discourage or eliminate even more?

Well, one party apparently thinks so.

In her county who contacted people with signature problems. One ballot was a surprise for her. Her own signature was kicked out as not matching. This was the easiest ballot she got!

12. It was these same Republican Bastards the would not Allow early votes to be counted early.

They were repeatedly asked to change the law to allow these early votes and vote by mail votes to be processed as they come in. But they chose to not allow this and purposefully delayed the counting to be dragged out as we have seen here to try to help Trump pull some kind of shit.

Here in Ohio, we are pretty much dominated by Republicans too, but at least the election is somewhat fair and they allowed the early votes to be processed, and we had most of the votes tabulated within a day. Of course they still pulled that one early voting location per county and one drop off box per county bullshit.

We need to have better national standards for voting. Period.
