Tillis wins North Carolina Senate race after Cunningham concedes
Source: Politico
The victory gives the GOP at least 49 senators in the new Congress, with GOP Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska leading his race to become the 50th Republican. Control of the Senate will come down to two Jan. 5 runoffs in Georgia.
North Carolina was the epicenter of the battle for the Senate in 2020, easily topping $200 million in total spending on its way to becoming the most expensive Senate race of all time.
Tillis, a first-term senator who narrowly won his seat in a GOP wave six years ago, faced persistent concerns about support from Republican base voters and even the threat of a primary challenge, all of which weakened his standing in a tightly divided state even before the election year arrived.

Or did does he know something we dont?
Mail in ballots are still coming in and they had stopped counting with some 180000 + whatever new ballots would arrive.
Ive not seen that change.
Im still trying to figure out why he conceded now.
I dont see that anything has changed much for a week.
there are still 18600 votes plus whatever came in after election day.
of course, a concession really doesnt mean anything, if the votes suddenly came in he would just un-conceed but really the timing seems goofy.

(11,518 posts)I have no doubt that his cheating scandal played a role in the loss, as far as I'm concerned that's 'electoral malpractice' and he should refund our donations.
How fucking stupid can you get?

(9,981 posts)In 2016, both pre-voting polls and exit polls showed Clinton winning, even with small margins. The 2020 polls were showing Democratic margins outside the margin of error in many cases, and I seem to remember that Cunninghams race was one of those. The polls were actually forecasting a blue wave. So my question is why have the polls suddenly been so wrong in elections that Republicans were not expected to win but did.
As I recall, there were lots of excuses in 2016 like calling only landlines and not cell phones. This time pollsters adjusted for education level and gender and other factors that came out of the 2016 failure. Isnt it time for us to stop saying the polls were wrong and start wondering how Republicans are manipulating the vote?
