Georgia's chief election official announces hand recount of presidential results
Source: Politico.com
Georgias chief election official announced Wednesday that the state will conduct a recount by hand of every ballot cast in the presidential race, with President-elect Joe Biden narrowly leading President Donald Trump in the states vote count.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, said that he would designate the presidential contest as the race to undergo a risk-limiting audit, an election verification procedure that uses a statistical formula to determine how many electronically tabulated ballots need to be manually checked in order to rule out the possibility of fraud or errors.
With the margin being so close, it will require a full, by-hand recount in each county, Raffensperger said. It will be an audit, a recount and a recanvass all at once.
In risk-limiting audits, every ballot is not necessarily examined for accuracy. But, because of the closeness of the presidential race, that is what will happen to every ballot in Georgia. Raffensperger said the margin between Biden and Trump is currently just 14,111 votes.

(32,750 posts)Not the recount or the election!
Even little Scotty walker from WI said the recounts he was involved in yielded approx 150-200 vote changes.
Biden now has a 14k+ lead there. They just want a different outcome..aint happenin

(1,968 posts)You'd why just the presidential race? Seems like they'd want to also count down ballot races too.

(25,237 posts)will they recount all the races run on Nov. 3rd? What I'm interested in is the voting for the Senate candidates.
Will they try and discredit having the Senate run-offs?

(44,973 posts)GA doesn't require an automatic recount. Trump can ask for a recount, but he isn't entitled to a hand recount.
GA is doing hand recount of the whole state.
Which is ridiculous.

(7,288 posts)On one hand, I want them to do it, but on the other, Trump should have to request (and pay) for it.
People really want this to be over, so as usual, Trump gets special treatment.

14,111 is outside the margin for an automatic state funded recount. If Trump wants to pay for a recount he is allowed one and he can control cost by specifying a machine or hand recount. A machine recount would yield almost no change and the only reason there would be any change is because some ballots have markings that are borderline readable by the computer. One time it picks it up and another time it can't quite pick it up. A hand recount would pick those up so overall both candidates would get more votes from a hand recount. I see nothing to worry about. Joe has this locked down.

(7,402 posts)On who the vote is for on every ballot. Nearly all the markings are very obvious. The rest are set aside for closer scrutiny. Those should result in both sides picking up a few more votes. I can't see where more of a swing than a couple of hundred could occur and that is why the election really isn't close enough to go to this extraordinary measure unless Trump wants to pay for it.

Be alarmed. Brian Kemp is our Governor, & a stellar reputation he does not possess. I believe the individual counties should certify first, that way we have the paper trail we need. Look 4 GOP fraud on a grand scale. I don't think they dare, albeit t/GOP is supporting a coup.

Even if a hand count doesn't change the outcome, it is planting false hope in impeached traitor and false hope in his idiot cult. I'm sick of coddling a bunch of power mad criminals and watching one fail safe after another fail. gdi

Of course given the corruption of the Republicans nationwide and in this state like Kemp I am willing to bet they find extra Trump ballots as well as reasons to throw out just enough Biden ones to get there.

(2,594 posts)It could trigger others across states with tight margins favoring Biden so that they can rig the Electoral College. This is a stall tactic to prevent the state's vote being certified by deadline.
