Claims dead people voted in US election false, fact check finds

Source: Associated Press

6 MIN AGO • SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS
Widespead theories about voter fraud spread across social media following the US election and have been widely claimed by Donald Trump.

But claims including dead people's identities used in Pennsylvania and people using women’s maiden names being used without their knowledge to cast votes in other states are being disputed by election officials.

They say there's no evidence that dead people voted in Pennsylvania.

Election experts say false claims about dead voters come up every election. One tweet that repeated the false claim stated: “These are some of the people who voted in #PA...840 were 101 years old or older, 39 lived through the Civil War, 45 were born in the 1800s.”

The tweet had over 18,000 retweets. Pennsylvania’s Office of Attorney General refuted claims that votes were cast through deceased people.

4. There probably were people who voted...and died before election day.

My mother, rest her soul, wanted to vote for President Obama, if it was the last thing she did. Fortunately, she lived to do that...but not much longer. She was 100.
My sister's husband, my brother-in-law, recently died of alzheimer's disease. I'm positive my sister cast his ballot for tRump. These little things happen on both sides. They are insignificant in the big picture. You can find these rare situations on both sides of the aisle. They are not right, but they happen.
To pick apart the election results looking for situations where someone voted, but the were deceased before the election isn't worthy of time spent to locate them. "shrapnel"....they don't matter.
Move on. President Biden won by much wider margins than the draft dodging coward con artist did in 2016. Move the fook on.
Watch Real Time this week with Bill Maher. He says it well. We, the democratic loyalists need to wake the fook up and stop playing so stupid. I knew instantly when I heard "defund the police" that it was a poison pill. How insane a slogan is that. Voters' rights for prisoners...WHILE IN PRISON? Come on. Are we trying to make it a contest, when it shouldn't be? We have to stop playing stupid. I love AOC...but she needs to tone it down on messages that are destroying our chances in razon thin wins from 2018. She can still be for "the Green New Deal"...but how about we quit calling it that? How about we play the GOP game...play smart. Select our catch phrases, and stop shooting ourselves in the foot every day of the week.

Dead man 'voted' for Trump - 2016

In another case, 88 year old Audrey R. Cook of Alton, Illinois, voted for the Republican nominee in place of her recently deceased husband.

Ms. Cook is an election judge who says she has no regrets whatsoever about voting in place of her deceased husband. She does not feel as if she did anything wrong, she said, because she voted as she knew her late husband would have had he survived to vote for himself. Her husband, Virtus Cook, also served as an election judge, and worked as a computer consultant for the city of Alton.

First, thank you for unifying Pennsylvania during this divided time that the Cowboys truly blow.

My dude, you put out a national call for voter fraud + I delivered. It was a dead mom voting for Trump.
😆

Your generous reward will go directly to the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

Faith in the electoral process is a serious issue. Transparency is critical. PA Dems brought this on themselves w/ last minute changes to election laws and counting ballots behind closed doors. Respond to the reports. Answer the questions. Stop the snide put-downs and #getserious

This is PA’s only documented case of voter fraud this cycle. Ironically, the system worked + shut it down.

PA Republicans been feverishly looking for voter fraud for a week + it’s *still* just my dude in Forty Fort + 1 dead mom

We must acknowledge how devastating PA’s *actual* case of voter fraud is to lies of voter fraud.

Over $6M PA ballots cast: it was flagged
🚩
+ shut down.

That is remarkable.

The system worked.

Biden is up 53K votes + counting.

Math is destiny.

Forty Fort man applied for a ballot for his deceased mother, detectives allege

By ERIC MARK STAFF WRITER Oct 21, 2020 Updated Oct 21, 2020 Comments

A Forty Fort man forged the name and signature of his deceased mother on an application for an absentee ballot, prosecutors allege. Robert R. Lynn, 67, was charged Wednesday with felony counts of forgery and interference with an election. The Luzerne County Bureau of Elections discovered potential fraud involving an absentee ballot application it received last month in the name of Marie P. Hannigan, who was Lynn’s mother, according to a criminal complaint filed by county detectives. The application included Hannigan’s purported signature and listed the reason for the request as “visiting great-grandkids Oct. 24-Nov. 10,” the complaint states.

According to the complaint:

A search at a database of voter information revealed that Hannigan was born in 1931, last voted in 2014 and had been listed as deceased on Aug. 21, 2015. The signature on the ballot application looked nothing like the signature on file for Hannigan.

County administration notified the county district attorney’s office.

On Oct. 8, county detectives visited the Forty Fort address listed for Hannigan and spoke with Lynn, who was walking out of the home as detectives arrived.

Detectives asked Lynn where Hannigan was. At first, Lynn said his mother was inside the house. When further pressed by detectives about the absentee ballot application, Lynn said his mother was deceased and eventually admitted that he forged her name and signature on the application.

Lynn said he used a typewriter to fill out the application, then signed his late mother’s name. He said he knew it was wrong but did it anyway, the complaint states.

Lynn was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Thomas Malloy and released on $10,000 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 5. Lynn is a registered Republican, according to state voter records. He has no previous criminal history in Pennsylvania, according to court records.
