If Joe Biden enacts mask mandates, lockdowns, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem won't enforce them

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Sioux Fall Argus-Leader

President-elect Joe Biden has floated a nationwide lockdown and mask mandate in response to surging coronavirus cases across the country.

But even if he follows through and orders all Americans to stay at home and cover their faces when in public, don't expect to see those mandates enforced in South Dakota.

The office of Gov. Kristi Noem said in a statement to the Argus Leader Friday that the first-term governor, who's risen to stardom in the Republican party for her hands-off approach to managing the pandemic, has no intention of using state resources to enforce any federal COVID-19 orders.

"It's a good day for freedom. Joe Biden realizes that the president doesn't have the authority to institute a mask mandate," said Ian Fury, communications specialist for Noem. "For that matter, neither does Governor Noem, which is why she has provided her citizens with the full scope of the science and trusted them to make the best decisions for themselves and their loved-ones."

Have all the states issue mask mandates (according to the President's order) and see their numbers drop.

And Kristi, along with the other idiots can watch their cases rise.

It's like that study that was done in Kansas (I think) where they had a number of counties issue mask, distancing, and hand washing orders and several counties that did not. It was therefore very easy to track the cases. Needless to say, the masked counties flattened the curve and the mask-less went up.

Meeting as a group, will give some power to those States who need a majority consensus to back up their policies.

This idea results in a 'strength in numbers', or a Union decision-making type of convention.

Seemed like a callous disregard for human life to me, but to him it made perfect sense. And I fear that his fatalistic attitude is shared by the North Dakota governor and Trump's mask-order-defying death cult members.

I didn't argue with him at the time, thinking it would have been futile to try to change his mind. But I'm still trying to think of a way to get through to him. How can you reason with someone who is comfortable with the deaths of 4 to 5 million Americans, just as long as he doesn't have to wear a mask? (This particular friend does, actually, wear a mask when required to, but he is angry and resentful at having to do so.)

57. One of my total right-wing cousins in South Dakota is part of the SD virus vector, spreading it.
Mon Nov 16, 2020, 04:32 PM
Nov 2020

On a family email list my SD cousin said:"We saw hundreds of thousands of visitors this season from every state in the nation. Many of them extremely upset at their home city/state that was “locked down” &/or mandating masks. We are EXTREMELY grateful that our Governor did not declare our (or any) family business in So Dakota as “non-essential” as many of the power hungry/borderline socialist politicians in blue states. What right does a politician have to shut down & bankrupt hundreds of thousands of American businesses? Those employed in the public sector can say “stay home” and not lose their household income – the same is not true in the private sector."

So I sent my SD Cousin the the summary info from this article:
The Dakotas are 'as bad as it gets anywhere in the world' for COVID-19
Source: USA Today

She responded: "South Dakota has been open throughout the whole pandemic and we have been going to work every day throughout it too. The past 6 months, millions of Americans from across the country traveled to our state because their own state or locale was locked down. In their home states, hundreds of thousands of businesses were bankrupted by their politicians. Livelihoods were ripped away. All of our visitors expressed anger and frustration with how their cities/states dealt with this situation. Our state is an example of what living in a free society looks like. Every person & business was given the opportunity to adjust their life & practices in order to cope with COVID-19. The death rate of this thing is extremely low (Thank God) for approx 99.8% of our society. Everyone that I know that has had it, stayed home with very mild symptoms and was fine after a week or so. We in SD are not living in fear."
