On Wednesday, Fox News’ John Roberts reported that the Trump campaign plans to file for recount in Wisconsin.




According to Wisconsin law, the president’s campaign is obligated to pay for the recount itself, which will cost them almost $8 million. The deadline to request the recount is today, which has led to speculation over whether or not the campaign would decide to go through with it.


As of Wednesday, results show President-elect Joe Biden carrying the state of Wisconsin by just over 20,000 votes — the closest margin of the three Midwestern “blue wall” states he flipped back after Trump carried them in his 2016 upset, but a large enough lead that a recount is unlikely to change the result...................

Trump has until 5 p.m. Wednesday to file for a recount and pay for it. If he wants a statewide recount, he will have to pay $7.9 million up front. He can also request recounts only in certain counties, which would reduce the cost. A recount would have to start no later than Saturday and be done by Dec. 1.

30. I doubt this is about changing the election result in Wisconsin.

Trump is looking for ways to delay conceding the election because it gives him more time to collect donations for his “legal fund,” most of which goes to his own new PAC, not legal expenses. It also gives him more time to resist allowing the transition to start because “all states aren’t decided yet,” which seems to be his goal so he can do as much damage as possible and hand Biden a totally dysfunctional government on January 20—one he hasn’t had time to prepare for because his team is stymied from talking to people in the administration. At least he and his team are experienced and will make the best of a bad situation.

All states must certify their election results before December 14, when each state’s EC delegates vote. So Trump has until December 14 to refuse to concede, even though there is no question about who won. I think his faithless electors ploy will not work, but I just want the EC vote over. After that, even Republicans in Congress can have no excuse for supporting Trump’s refusal to concede.
