U.S. investigators were told to take 'no further action' on Caterpillar, ex-client of Barr

Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Before William Barr became President Donald Trump’s choice to lead the U.S. Department of Justice, he represented Caterpillar Inc, a Fortune 100 company, in a federal criminal investigation by the department.

Much was at stake for Caterpillar: Since 2018, the Internal Revenue Service has been demanding $2.3 billion in payments from the company in connection with the tax matters under criminal investigation. The company is contesting that finding.

A week after Barr was nominated for the job of attorney general, Justice officials in Washington told the investigative team in the active criminal probe of Caterpillar to take “no further action” in the case, according to an email written by one of the agents and reviewed by Reuters.

The decision, the email said, came from the Justice Department’s Tax Division and the office of the deputy attorney general, who was then Rod Rosenstein.

That's not blatant or suspicious. Sounds like Rosenstein needs a hearing. 58Sunliner Nov 2020 #7

It's corruption today. And it will be corruption on January 21, 2021. Republican corruption doesn't disappear with the changing administration. Their time will come. Sooner. Later. Doesn't matter. But justice will prevail, and some - many? most? of these vile people will end up in jail. John Mitchell was convicted and sentenced to prison in the aftermath of Watergate. Also jailed: H.R. Haldeman, John Erlichman, John Dean, Howard Hunt, G. Gordon Liddy, Charles Colson, James McCord

We may not know their names today - frankly, which is as it should be - but they went to jail.

Trumpists have alread served time or are still in jail. Others will follow.

That Rosenstein guy, also blocked an investigation into Trump's ties to Russia those were never probed

Justice Dept. Never Fully Examined Trump’s Ties to Russia, Ex-Officials Say
The former deputy attorney general maneuvered to keep investigators from completing an inquiry into whether the president’s personal and financial links to Russia posed a national security threat.

The press didn't really follow up on what he did as they followed yet another Trump diversion. Rosenstein's actions were barely noticed in the onslaught of Trump's domination of the news stream. Slipped under the radar like a mouse under a church door.

Didn't BunkerBoy convince Caterpillar to keep jobs here in America instead of overseas? And didn't Caterpillar ultimately lay off a whole bunch of workers, much to their dismay?

Nah, there couldn't really be any problem with that company and this mis-administration, could there?

Why yes, he did!
And wasn't the IRS told to stop pursuing Caterpillar for the $2.3Billion in payments for tax matters under investigation once it was clear Barr would head up the DOJ?
Why yes, they were.
