Republican Senate signals it will confirm Biden Cabinet

Source: Politico

Senate Republicans are signaling they will confirm most of President-elect Joe Biden’s Cabinet picks in January — a rare bright spot for a White House that may clash with a GOP majority for years to come.

Many Republicans won’t even publicly concede that Biden will be the next president while President Donald Trump fights to overturn the election results. But a critical mass of GOP senators said in interviews that Biden has the right to his Cabinet, indicating he may be able to staff his administration largely to his liking.

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said that he believes a “president ought to be able to pick his or her Cabinet barring someone who is out of the mainstream of either party,” and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) gives “great latitude” to presidents to make appointments. Those two plus Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) give Biden a working majority on Cabinet picks, even if Democrats fall short in a pair of Georgia runoffs and the GOP holds a 52-48 majority.

“He’s our president-elect. All presidents have a right to their Cabinet,” Murkowski said. “Our job, our role is to make sure that he selects folks that are … within the mainstream. And are good, qualified credible candidates. And if he does that, sure, I am going to work with him.”

Because Senate Republicans will want assurances that Trump and his Administration and Cabinet will be off limits from investigations.

Watch what they do.

If anything, the last 4 years we've proven that our government can function with toadies or absolutely no one at the helm of various cabinet posts. So, if they think that will protect their party from irreparable harm, they're sadly mistaken.

Investigating Trump and his Cabinet is going to snare a lot of Republican Members of Congress. Congress Critters have no immunity from prosecution for the authentic felonies they commit; Duke Cunningham is proof of that.

And I don’t know...I wanted the Democrats to take the majority in the Senate because they’re better people, not because only three Republicans haven’t been imprisoned for crimes they committed on behalf of Donald Fucking Trump. But if we’ve got to take jail, jail it will be.

They let Trump run roughshod over everyone and everything, themselves and this country included, with smiles on their faces and praise for their master. He put the opposite in every position, there was nothing mainstream about anything Trump did.

I am not yet persuaded. We know Mitch prefers to play hardball and expects to determine future of the Republic as his divine right.

Call me when it happens. Until then I've no interest in soggy bottom land in Utah, Alaska, or Maine. We've all heard that pitch before.

and this will become moot. Donnie is keeping our base enraged and ready to vote again. But without Donnie as the headliner, I don't think Republicans will turn out in the numbers we saw a couple weeks ago. They don't trust that their votes will be "counted" anyway, so what's the point? in their minds. They'd rather rage on facebook.

Hey Lisa, you said “Our job, our role is to make sure that he selects folks that are … within the mainstream. And are good, qualified credible candidates. And if he does that, sure, I am going to work with him.”

My question is where have you been the last 4 years? Because orange pustule's cabinet picks surely are NOT mainstream and I don't recall you voting against a single one.

We all know how Mitch, Lindsey, and Mario have already stated that they are not going to pass any of Biden's nominees. I call BS on this article. I wish it were different, but it is what it is. I have faith in Biden to work around it the best he can.
