Three Black Michigan voters and the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization filed a lawsuit Friday against President Trump and his campaign claiming the president and his team have disenfranchised Black voters with their attempts to challenge the outcome of the presidential election.
After engaging in a slew of legal challenges over election results in various battleground states, the campaign is now pressing state and local authorities not to certify the results of their elections, therefore compromising the integrity of the election process and unlawfully interfering with will of the voters, the case document, obtained by Politico, alleges.
The lawsuit, filed a day after Trumps lawyer Rudy Giuliani claimed during a press conference that the presidents campaign had uncovered 300,000 illegitimate ballots cast primarily in Detroit, specifically targets Wayne County, where Detroit is located. The residents of the county, which has a large Black population, are facing an echo of the worst abuses in our nations history at the hands of the Trump administration, the plaintiffs claim.
President-Elect Joe Biden won Wayne County with 597,170 votes, while Trump received 264,553 votes including a margin of over 200,000 votes in Detroit.

(5,135 posts)I wish more people and organizations could file suit against the monster. He suffers no consequences for his actions, ever. Id be willing to contribute a few bucks to the civil rights lawsuits by minorities, if I knew where I could help.

(291 posts)The whiner in the White House is stalling. He lost. Now he's playing these little games with as small amount of cash he possibly can to continue this nonsense. Now he'll have to spend that cash on fighting lawsuits against him and these are legitimate lawsuits.
I also hope he'll face more of these.
January 20, 2021 is going to be an amazing day.

(2,957 posts)I'm pleased to see somebody suing Trump for a change but the Wayne county certification challenge should be a moot point...
The two Wayne County Republican "canvassers" are essentially disputing the election outcome, which does fall not under the authority of the Board of Canvassers. From Chapter 3, page 8 of the Michigan "Boards of County Canvassers Manual":
"Special Note: The purpose of a canvass is to verify the proper completion of the records related to the election at hand. The investigation of alleged election law violations is not a part of the canvass. Consequently, the Board of County Canvassers does not have the authority to pass upon the legality of an election. In McQuade v Furgason, 91 Mich 438 (1892), the Michigan Supreme Court stated:
(I)t is the settled law of this State that canvassing boards are bound by the return, and cannot go behind it, especially for the purpose of determining frauds in the election. Their duties are purely ministerial and clerical....

(13,582 posts)We need more pushback so Fatso understands he faces consequences for his actions. I bet there are plenty of on the record statements to warrant this lawsuit. More citizens need to file suits in other states.

(36,925 posts)When you realize there were more votes cast in Michigan than the entire population of Minnesota, it's pretty hard to argue against their jurisprudence.

(17,231 posts)Perhaps the real motivation is to make the Trump camp spend money. Fighting fire with fire in other words.
And I like it. Its about damn time!
