Sidney Powell: Trump legal team disavows lawyer who claimed Venezuelan communists helped rig US election

Donald Trumps legal team has distnaced itself from attorney Sidney Powell after she spread wild conspiracy theories about election fraud.
The presidents legal team took to Twitter to distance themselves from Ms Powell, who has claimed Venezuelan communists helped to interfere in the US election, and to insist she was not working for the outgoing president.
The move came just days after Ms Powell appeared onstage with Rudy Giuliani during a bizarre press conference where the former New York City mayor also made baseless accusations of voter fraud.
Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity, said Mr Giuliani and Jenna Ellis in the statement.

(21,624 posts)They kept at it non-stop for weeks in late 2019. They thought it was the easiest way to convince others that Macri had in fact "not lost" - but rather "had been cheated by a Chavista cabal working with Iranian expats in Buenos Aires."
Or some such nonsense.
The fact that Macri presided over a debt crisis, 55% inflation, and a 20% loss in real wages was, they felt, immaterial in his loss.

Oh, yeah, Macritters also threw in Iran! That figures!
Amazing. Thanks for the deeper story on this same excuse for failure. Wonderful.

(21,624 posts)I suppose the main difference with Trump was that Macri, at least, never seriously tried to revert the results of the 2019 election - which, you'll recall, he lost by a surprisingly tight 8% (polls had him down 15%+).
But yes: some of his surrogates - particularly in right-wing cable news - couldn't accept the failure no matter what.
Could it be that this is where Ms. Powell and the rest of them got the 'Venezuela did it' idea? Who knows.
But it's possible, given Macri's known friendship with His Orangeness.

There has been no shortage of drama since Donald Trump won the election, so it should come as no surprise that losing one has not provided a dull moment either.
In the latest instalment of post-election fallout, President Donald Trumps election campaign has attempted to distance itself from Sidney Powell, a lawyer who made baseless allegations of voter fraud at a campaign news conference on Thursday.
Sidney Powell is practising law on her own, Trump campaign lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis said in a statement on Sunday.
She is not a member of the Trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity.
