GM flips to California's side in pollution fight with Trump

DETROIT (AP) General Motors says it will no longer support the Trump administration in legal efforts to end Californias right to set its own clean-air standards.
CEO Mary Barra said in an letter Monday to environmental groups that GM will pull out of the lawsuit, and it urges other automakers to do so.
She said the company agrees with President-elect Joe Bidens plan to expand electric vehicle use. Last week, GM said it is testing a new battery chemistry that will bring electric-vehicle costs down to those of gas-powered vehicles within five years.
Barra sent the letter after a call with California Gov. Gavin Newsom, the company said.

(100,108 posts)It's mind boggling to me that a car that I purchased in 2020 has almost the exact same MPG rating that a car that I bought in 2008 had. Cars should be getting at least double that MPG by now and I hope that hybrid and full electric cars start gaining more and more traction and start improving with each generation.

(1,204 posts)Yes, I know it has not been discontinued. But I have unlimited range is there's a gas station on my way.
Right now I'm on my 2nd Volt. The first generation had 66,000 miles on it after 4 years of driving and it was able to get 122 mpg average and that is with lots of highway driving. Many other Volt owners laugh at my puny gas mileage. I figure, I saved $10,000 in gas over that 4 years.
Previous to the Volt, I owned 6 turbo cars in a row, which included Ford Probes and Saabs. It was a worry to me that I would miss the acceleration in a Volt. But Volt is not a hybrid- it's an electric car with a gas generator to replenish the battery. Electric vehicles have amazing acceleration such that I did not miss turbo engines.
So, on to the future! Save gas, fossil fuels , the planet and in return, drive fun automobiles !!!
Now bring down the price on that RAV 4 Hybrid PRIME.
