Trump Trying to Reinstate Execution by Firing Squad Before He Leaves Office, Says Report

Source: The Daily Beast

There have been many predictions—from instigating nuclear war to pardoning Joe Exotic—about what President Donald Trump might do during his final months in office, but it’s fair to say few people guessed this.

According to a report from ProPublica, Trump is trying to rush through a proposed regulation that could see federal executions being carried out by firing squads again. The proposed rule cleared White House review on Nov. 6, according to the report, so it could be finalized any day. However, the archaic method may never be used—all five scheduled federal executions are expected to be carried out with lethal injection, and President-elect Joe Biden opposes the death penalty.

Elsewhere in the report, it’s stated that Trump is also trying to push through a regulation that would exclude transgender people from federally funded homeless shelters and loosen water-saving standards on showerheads—a personal grievance the president has frequently railed about to rally crowds.

But that doesn't change the fact that there's no federal law forcing anyone to use low-flow showerheads TTBOMK.

There may some state laws requiring them, esp. in times of drought, at least in hotels, motels, probably public housing, that sort of thing. Some states may ban the sale in stores of showerheads that exceed a certain level, not sure on that. But for sure if you really want a full-flow showerhead, you can put one in your own house and you're not gonna get fined or arrested or anything.

Course I'm sure he stays in hotels so much, so he very frequently finds low flow heads, hence his whining ... but I'm pretty sure that most hotels use them BECAUSE IT SAVES THEM MONEY not because there's some federal law mandating it. Could be wrong, but ...

Again and again it's been proven that it's far more expensive to execute someone (18 times in California!) than to sentence them to life in prison. The burden of proof and all of the legalities put millions of dollars into lawyers' pockets. Meanwhile, incarceration costs are fixed and limited to a lifetime. The punishment of lifetime imprisonment is horrifying. There's also the possibility of redemption.

There's also the possibility of innocence.

First they would shave his head and legs. Next, they would attach an electrode (using conductive gel, no sponges anymore) to the top of his head and one leg. And to finish the job, they use a cycle that goes from 3000 volts to 500 volts...IIRC it’s a minute at 3000, a minute at 500, they turn off the power and check for signs of life, and if he’s not dead they give him more cycles until he is.

If there HAVE to be executions, lethal injection is absolutely the wrong way to do it.

The first problem is you can't get the most important part of the drug cocktail - the stuff that knocks you out so you don't know you're being killed. For reasons I don't know, all the general anesthetic used in this country is made in Europe. Europe has strict regulations against helping in executions, and they've already stopped exporting one important anesthetic to the US out of fear it'll wind up in a prison killing someone. (They also almost stopped shipping Propofol to the US because a Missouri prison was accidentally shipped five vials of it and the first thing they thought was, "Cool! Now we can execute five prisoners!&quot

The second problem is anyone who knows shit about anesthesia is ethically prohibited from participating in an execution. Texas found some way to train its executioners how to do it, but most states...it would be more humane to get Donny Donowitz from Inglourious Basterds to beat the prisoners to death with a baseball bat than to give them an Oklahoma-style lethal injection.

On the other hand, if you shoot someone in the heart with five rifles, they die right then. And we can also learn from the French: the French government wanted to ban execution a lot sooner than they ultimately did, but the population said it had to continue and "with this new lethal injection process, their deaths will be peaceful and painless." So the government decided to keep the guillotine, on the grounds that juries would be less likely to sentence someone to be chopped in half than to get a little needle poke in the arm and fall asleep forever. Turns out they were right - juries wouldn't sentence someone to be chopped in half even for the most brutal murders.

Besides, if we HAVE to stand the entire Trump administration up against the wall, it would be really helpful if Trump himself made it possible.

And as for those fucking shower heads...Don, you do realize you're supposed to remove your makeup BEFORE you get in the shower, right?

Obviously not. There is no such thing as a humane execution.

. . . I'm proven wrong.

Of all the things I thought that Trump would attempt during the interregnum, reinstating execution by firing squad just never occurred to me.

(Teenagers who were later EXONERATED. They DIDN'T DO IT.)

Trump has never admitted he was wrong. He never apologized. He never took a single minute to reflect on the fact that he spent money to call for the killing of 5 innocent kids.

He's got a sadistic execution fetish. Especially when the victims are Black or Brown.

I really recommend Ava DuVernay's drama series When They See Us: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_They_See_Us

This is a manifestation of Trump's mental pathologies in being kicked out of office -- lashing out with CRUELTY while he still has the power of the office.

To glimpse the "soul" of this creature is to stare into the abyss.
