Georgia recount costs some counties hundreds of thousands of dollars

Source: AJC

Counting and recounting ballots in the presidential race in Georgia is costing taxpayers in some metro Atlanta counties hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Though the full cost is not clear, Fulton County officials said Wednesday that the combined price tag for last week’s hand count and this week’s machine recount will approach $400,000. Among other things, that includes staff time and rent through January for the Georgia World Congress Center, where counting takes place.

DeKalb County believes the hand recount alone will cost $180,000. Other counties have not yet released cost estimates. But it’s clear taxpayers will pay a steep price for recounts that state officials say will not change the outcome of the presidential race.

While some states require candidates to pay for recounts, in Georgia taxpayers pay the bill.

Part of Trump's tragic legacy will be the billions and billions of dollars of taxpayer money that he has wasted in his own selfish, useless, and very often malicious pursuits.

1. Why doesn't the Trump Campaign and/or the RNC pick up the tab? Why GA taxpayers?

2. Because state law does not require it.

Did you think they'd voluntarily pay for it?

5. Send them the bill anyway. Public needs to know where their tax money went.

And it won't make the public more fond of
republicans who away pissed tax dollars
on a issue that had already become clear
after the first recount.

9. Because

the RepubliCONs and TRUMP INC wouldn't have paid it anyway. Trump is infamous for doing everything he can to make sure others pick up the tab for his adventures, sparing him the expense but always allowing him the profit.

I have a great idea. Tell all the voters that if they all vote to give the two Democrat senators the win, we will take up a collection from across the U.S. to pay their government back the money wasted on the re-count, and maybe even more to get their gov't back on their feet.......

3. The Ga. second recont is mandated by law since the final vote count was so

close. In at least some of the States where DT had demanded a recount, HE & his campaign had to pay for it. That's the reason they only demanded a recount in two Counties in Michigan.

6. The second Georgia recount was not mandated by law.

It was done at Trump's request, at taxpayer expense.

State law does not require an automatic recount of votes. However, based on Georgia H.B. 316 (2019), a candidate can request a recount if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5%. That request has to be made within two business days of the results being certified.

Trump is paying for a recount of 2 counties in Wisconsin, not Michigan.

Trump campaign requests costly partial recount in Wisconsin
The campaign has requested recounts in two counties where Joe Biden, the apparent winner of the state, is ahead by large margins.

7. Yes it is at DTs requestm but he doesn't have to pay for it because when it is that

close. That's all I meant. The others he has to pay for.
