Fakhrizadeh died in hospital after an attack in Absard, in Damavand county.

On edit. Israel sometimes takes risks other liberal democracies won't. It's a product of their history. Many times, they've not had a choice. This is one of those times.

(53,950 posts)It is possible it was an "inside" job, meaning they were recruited by a foreign government, to do this. Of course, it could be a "hit" by the Iranian government, if they felt he was compromised, a moderate, or some other factor. A truck bomb, on a busy highway with lots of traffic, and five gunman...not really the hallmark of Mossad or even the CIA. Then, again, it could be Saudi Arabia in an attempt to "prove" they are worthy of a US shipment of arms. Who knows.

(2,412 posts)This is a parting monkey wrench by Trump and Friends to sabotage our relationship with Iran for Biden's foreign policy. As one who has worked on Iran sister city relationship with my town, and who has visited Iran in 2008, I hope that Peace will prevail. Trump and Friends doing this is like controlling what happens after he leaves office. I hope that cool heads will return to the Iran Nuclear Agreement. And please don't call it a "deal", that is Trump talk. Deal is a word we use for buying a car, not an important international agreement with several countries.

(672 posts)1) They could be there because US knew about this assassination plan and wanted heavy bomber assets near Iran
2) They could also be carrying the bunker buster bombs that Israel needs if they are to target the underground facilities Iran built recently
Trump is stupid enough to trigger a major conflict with Iran and think that this will allow him to stay in office
