Judge denies motion by U.S. teenager accused in Wisconsin protest shootings to dismiss two charges

(Reuters) - A judge on Thursday denied a motion by a lawyer for Kyle Rittenhouse, a U.S. teenager accused of fatally shooting two protesters and wounding a third during summer protests in Wisconsin, to dismiss two of the lesser charges against him.

The shootings occurred in August in Kenosha, Wisconsin amid civil unrest sparked by the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man. Rittenhouse’s lawyers have said he was helping protect property and that he acted in self defense.

Rittenhouse, 17, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide and five other criminal counts related to the shootings, in which Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber were killed and Gaige Grosskreutz was wounded. The charges also include one count for illegal possession of a weapon and a count for allegedly endangering the safety of journalist Richard McGinnis.

Mark Richards, a lawyer for Rittenhouse, filed a motion this week seeking to have the weapons charge and the count related to McGinnis tossed, arguing that a “reasonable person” could not conclude those crimes were committed.

The weapon was stored at the friend's father's place in Kenosha, so they drove there, got the gun, and went to the protests.

I don't have time now to hunt up the references for this, but it has been disproven that Rittenhouse's mother drove him.

destroys a self-defense claim.

His mother should be charged with the same counts, just as a getaway driver at a bank robbery would.

And if you don't already know, the wounded victim is an EMT who was there to help anyone injured and a large chunk of his bicep was blown off. He'll need a great deal of therapy and maybe more surgeries, but will definitely need to find different work.

All Kyle proved that fateful day was what a scared-dickless, little racist brat he really is. That's all any of them are. His moronic parents should be proud.

Not any more than a short skirt and fishnet stockings or participating in prostitution destroys a rape claim.

Claims of self-defense can't get him out of charges involving illegally possessing a firearm - but that's a different charge.

If I were a juror in this case, the first thing I would be thinking is "if he's truly not guilty (of inciting the protesters, then running away and squeezing off those rounds), how is it self-defense?". Plus, he crossed the state line--intentionally putting himself at risk that required him to use his illegal weapon.

The prosecutor should not settle for a lower weapons charge when two people are dead and another is seriously wounded. This boy and his mommy should do at least 30 years each. As a Wisconsinite, I don't mind my taxes paying for their food and lodging to keep the streets safe.

He won't do the whole bit once some of the other inmates find out who he is. Wisconsin's penal system has a Dahmer elimination solution, much like Sharron Angle's 2nd Amendment solution from 2010. It only takes one guy with a broom.

with the thugs stimulus $$. Same dude that drove the little thug back to Antioch with the weapon.

I think he should pay back his stimulus $$, pretty sure that wasn’t what it was intended for.

If he was so adamant to “protect property”, why didn’t he protect his own state?

One thing that really irks me is the people bringing up the victims criminal histories. For all the little wannabe cop knew, they could have been teachers, priests, lawyers, etc. Doesn’t make murder any less of a fact. They’re still dead, and maimed.

There’s a special place waiting for this little shit and it’s called Columbia Prison.

I'm pretty sure he wanted to be a famous domestic terrorist after 17 years of being a manipulated little white-skinned loser. He got his wish.

Yes, the gun salesperson should also go away--just like the bartender who overserves the drunk driver. Nothing good ever happens when these type of weapons are out in public. Kyle was hunting, and humans are always in season.

As for Columbia, it is badass, but Stanley (east of Eau Claire) would be less convenient for visitors and appeals attorneys.

I used to live in Kenosha and still have friends there. Whichever way this trial goes, I don’t see it boding well for the city. They’re still reeling from the Blake incident. All hell could break lose....

That’s one rough area, which is why we got out. Both my children were born there, but there was no way they were going to be raised and educated there.

I know the police shooting is what sparked it all, but the problems in Kenosha weren't due to one ethnic group.

A great deal of despair came with the closing of Chrysler and other factories. Of course, the same happened in small cities all over America. The jobs that went overseas were sent by lily-white capitalists in $1000 suits who laugh at the chaos that's occurring 50+ stories below their offices.

Ignorant, misinformed chilkdren like Kyle and Dylann Roof are providing cheap entertainment for these American oligarchs. It's "Genocide by Moron". It helps them to have PT Barnum's evil twin in the White House as emcee.

Only 47 days left before the Trump Show & Snuff Film gets cancelled. We need a major cult deprogramming (74 million) to bring us back again.
