Senate approves one-week spending bill to avert midnight shutdown
Source: Washington Post
The Senate on Friday passed a one-week spending bill that will prevent a government shutdown, giving the White House and Congress another week to negotiate a broader set of spending measures. The vote came just hours before a midnight deadline.
The bill had already passed the House of Representatives. The measure still has to be signed into law by President Trump, something a White House spokesman said Friday he is expected to do.
But Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) warned their colleagues that they would not approve a similar measure next week unless lawmakers voted on a separate measure to approve stimulus checks for Americans as the economy continues to weaken. I will not be prepared to withdraw an objection next week, Sanders said. We will deal with the financial crisis facing tens of millions of Americans.
Congress has for months known about the looming expiration of government funding, but lawmakers sought to use the deadline to force action on a long-stalled emergency economic relief package. With the stimulus talks now bogging down, congressional leaders have scrambled to approve a one-week continuing resolution to buy more time to hammer out the elusive deal.

I say some layoffs are overdue anyway. We can thin the herd by cutting ties with the 126 traitors who violated their Oath by trying to overturn a free and fair democratic election. "Sorry, Mr. Jordan. Since you can't do it, we'll balance the budget ourselves. Too bad about that Unemployment thingy you never took seriously." The unemployed don't have lobbyists to legally bribe these jackals.
They (allegedly) work for us. Let's pay them by the hour and re-negotiate that insurance package that we don't qualify for. All the ones 65 and over can just head right to Medicare and need a supplement with a costly premium.
