California sued over new coronavirus workplace rules

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

A group of small California businesses and national business groups sued California state agencies Wednesday, seeking to rollback broad workplace protections against the coronavirus implemented last month.

The National Retail Federation and the National Federation of Independent Businesses say rules adopted by the California Department of Industrial Relations to prevent virus infections in the workplace violate the state’s Administrative Procedures Act and weigh too heavily on businesses that have been pushed to the breaking point by the pandemic.

Three California small businesses are also plaintiffs in the suit filed in San Francisco Superior Court. Business groups lobbied strongly against the rule change approved unanimously last month by the by the Standards Board of the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, better known as Cal/OSHA, which is part of the broader business-regulation department.

...

The new rules task most employers in the state with assessing and fixing workplace hazards that would spread the coronavirus. They also must train employees on preventing its spread.

1. If businesses kill/sicken most of their workers/customers, who will buy their goods and services?

Who will be their worker bees?

Don't they have to keep some of us alive and in good health to turn a profit?

Short sighted.

In their minds it's not a crisis until they say it's a crisis. Creating of course, the worst of all outcomes as we're currently experiencing here in the US.

In their minds, having a business makes them the most important person in the world.

Other people dying is not their concern. Their money is more important than your life.

Money is more important to them than people or the planet.

Putin is thought to be the richest man on earth, worth about
$200 Billion. Yet he continues relentlessly to pursue more wealth and
more power. Power being a vehicle to obtain more money.

Our own US senators went out and bought stock in body bags when
they learned of Covid, probably why they encouraged people not to take
safety precautions.

It is like an addiction, no amount of money will satisfy them.
They want it all. Then what?

deal with these fools. Instead of asking for govt help to get through these difficult times they want to recall Newsom .

And as the poster above said if their business becomes affected becsuse of employees being infected or people just not going out they will blame the government for not doing enough to stop it

they should be pressuring Congress and the president to provide more relief to small businesses and workers. But, no, that would be "big gubmint" and we can't have that (unless you are an insider who can loot and pillage said gubmint).

and the thousands like them across the country highlight the lack of leadership from Washington D.C. I know I'm beating the proverbial dead horse but a nationwide plan to assist the citizens and smaller businesses affected most heavily by Covid restrictions, using tax credits, stimulus payments and mortgage delay/rescheduling would have gone a long way to avoid the shit show we are now experiencing………...
