Top Chicago city lawyer resigns over Anjanette Young wrongful police raid

Source: Guardian

  • Footage of February 2019 raid made in error stokes uproar
  • Black woman was handcuffed and not allowed to dress

The city of Chicago’s top attorney resigned on Sunday, in the fallout from a botched and wrongful police raid on the home of a Black woman who was not allowed to put on clothes before being handcuffed.

orporation counsel Mark Flessner announced the move in an email to employees, saying he was only recently involved with the legal case connected to police video of the February 2019 raid, made in error on the home of social worker Anjanette Young. Flessner did not say if he was asked to resign.

“It is clear that the raid of Anjanette Young’s home was a tragedy that we must learn from,” Flessner said in a statement. “Standing up for racial injustice and fighting for equality within our justice system are crucial matters that we must continue to work toward addressing as a community.”

Mayor Lori Lightfoot said she accepted Flessner’s resignation.

“I am committed to a full review of everything that occurred surrounding this incident, will take corrective action where appropriate, and will hold people accountable,” Lightfoot said.

Breonna knows...the evil in the hearts of humans...this coming almost 2 years later after this shameful event. Humiliating and degrading African-Americans is the rule, always has been alongside outright murder.

She's only been mayor 19 months.
She's fought the police union, issued a report critical of union intransigence when she was head of the police board, and was criticized by not being strict enough when the looting & rioting happened earlier this year.
What should she have changed in 19 months that would have you think she could stay in office?

since her image, in her helpless state, not really ready for public scrutiny, would be a gross invasion of her privacy?

I can believe there would be a good number of men an women who would consider this seriously, not just throw it out there.
