Hotel Harrington announces it will be closed during planned Jan. Pro-Trump demonstration
by Samantha Mitchell Monday, December 28th 2020
WASHINGTON (ABC7) -- Hotel Harrington announced that its hotel will be closed on the dates of a planned Pro-Trump demonstration in January. ... The hotel says it will be closed on January 4, 5, and 6 "for the safety of visitors and employees." ... It adds that refunds will be made available for any pre-paid reservations. ... Harry's has served as a gathering spot for President Trump's base.
Several stabbings happened in the area of Harry's Restaurant on the evening of Dec. 12 after mostly-peaceful pro-Trump rallies throughout the day. Officials say the clash was between Trump supporters and Anti-Trump protestors.
The group behind both the 'Million MAGA March' and a pro-President Donald Trump demonstration earlier this month plans to hold another event on January 6, the day President Trump claimed there would be "wild" protests in D.C.
The National Parks Service confirmed to ABC7 the group Women for America First originally submitted an application to hold an event on Jan. 23, the weekend after the inauguration. However, NPS said the group recently amended their application to move the rally to Jan. 5 through 7. The demonstration itself is slated for Jan. 6. on Freedom Plaza.

Hat tip, Will Sommer. He was tweeting about this last night.
DC's Hotel Harrington, a popular spot for Proud Boys, says it'll be closed on January 6.

I do not know how this affects the hotel's and bar's workers. Someone might be passing the hat for them.
DC's Hotel Harrington, a popular spot for Proud Boys, says it'll be closed on Jan 6 -- the same day as a last-ditch MAGA rally to stop Congress from counting electoral votes. Angry Trump supporters who lost room reservations are fuming on The Donald.
Harry's, the Harrington hotel bar that's become a hub for Proud Boys and other MAGA types and been fined by violating Covid restrictions, has also said they'll be closed Jan. 6.

(12,423 posts)You don't think the locals or various Fed. agencies can handle these wannabes? In DC, it's illegal to open carry a firearm and getting a permit to carry one concealed is next to impossible, especially if one isn't a resident of DC.
The FBI's HRT, US Marshal's SWAT team, the ATF's SWAT team, DEA's response teams, along with the DC police can handle these assholes, there's no need to call out the Military, unless it's the NG to help with crowd control.

He also sent her to grad school at Vanderbilt with a hand gun. I told him driving across state lines with that in the moving van was illegal but I didn't get listened to.

(21,586 posts)being held liable for possible injuries or deaths, to their employees and the public. What business would want to be at the heart of violence?
OTOH, Proud Boys might take their anger at the closing out on the hotel.
Let them use park benches and newspapers like homeless people do.

(15,349 posts)I understand that it's not the hotels fault, but businesses...ALL OF THEM...need to understand that even a casual, remote connection to these fucking Retrumplican Nazis will be seen as a fucking hepatitis outbreak at a buffet.
These fucking seditious pricks should have NO PLACE to hang their hats.
If I see a Prick Boy at a fucking ice cream stand, either that ice cream stand refuses him service, or they endorse his actions and beliefs.
The ONLY thing this country understands anymore is profit. The ONLY way to choke off this seditious Retrumplicanism is to make it not profitable.

As long as there are school groups, the Harrington will survive.
