$600 stimulus payments will start going out Tuesday night, Treasury Secretary Mnuchin says
Source: CNBC
WASHINGTON The Trump administration will begin sending stimulus payments of up to $600 to millions of Americans as early as Tuesday evening, the second such direct payment to Americans amid historic unemployment and ongoing business closures.
In a pair of tweets Tuesday evening, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin wrote that payments "may begin to arrive in some accounts by direct deposit as early as tonight." He also wrote that the government would begin the process of mailing out paper checks on Wednesday for individuals without government-registered bank accounts.
"These payments are an integral part of our commitment to providing vital additional economic relief to the American people during this unprecedented time," Mnuchin wrote in a separate emailed statement.
The second round of payments will be distributed automatically in the following breakdown: up to $600 for eligible individuals, $1,200 for couples filing jointly and up to $600 for each child. "Generally, if you have adjusted gross income for 2019 up to $75,000 for individuals and up to $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns and surviving spouses, you will receive the full amount of the second payment," the Treasury Department wrote in a statement. "For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced," the statement added.

(4,604 posts)No money deposited yet, but it looks like they are getting their ducks in a row.
There were links for if you need a replacement card, a sign up to get a notification when the money hits your account, and other info.
This seems better organized than last time.
Wouldnt be surprised to see the money in there in the next 24 hours.🤞

(64,995 posts)The two companies combined delivered 12 million. 2.8 million have been used, 8.5 million are in distribution channels (unfortunately including bottlenecks, but they know where they are) and 800,000 is in US reserved safety stock.
The worst thing to happen would be to have no safety inventory, then have a manufacturing hiccup occur.
With no safety stock, it would cause a month of chaos.
The rest of what the 2 companies made went to other countries who had contracts, too. The US isn't their only customer.
There have been screw-ups in the filling of the pipeline, but there's no systemic skimming.
The 20 million was a fact-free empty promise from the gang that lies about everything.
There was never going to be 20 million vaccinations by year's end .

(2,191 posts)Which is supposed to solve that issue. Here's a story https://www.marketwatch.com/story/never-got-a-covid-19-stimulus-check-there-may-be-another-opportunity-to-claim-when-filing-your-taxes-11607707238
And here's the IRS website article: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/recovery-rebate-credit
It addresses only the $1200 payment, but I assume it will also apply to the $600 payment, which sadly also uses the 2019 income as a guide.

(22,057 posts)Why does a couple making $150,000 a year, need a couple of $600 checks? And people above that amount still get something?
They must have trouble buying groceries.

(61,588 posts)My wife and I don't need these checks. We are among those very fortunate people who are able to work remotely. Our employment hasn't been affected by COVID. In contrast, millions of Americans have lost jobs, businesses, or at least a significant portion of their incomes because of the pandemic. And many people have had to take on unexpected expenses because of the pandemic.
Folks who have suffered economic losses during this time need a lot more than $600. Those of us more fortunate don't need this. In this age of technology, the supposed "best and richest" country in the world should have been able to figure out how to get relief into the hands of people who needed it, every single month.
Instead, most of the relief money has gone to Republican millionaires and Trump cronies. It's a disgraceful fail. It's unforgivable.

(64,995 posts)There's probably some pent up spending on recreation & personal enjoyment.
Those that don't need it, could quickly return that into the economy.
The upper limit is actually $174,000 married, filing jointly. From $150k to the ceiling, the $600 finishes linearly.
My wife & I won't get anything. We barely got anything the first go round. Around 20%, IIRC. The ceiling was 200k that time.
Also, there are some areas of the country where $150 thousand is not a giant amount of money.
But, it would be massively complicated to do geographic adjustments and take too long, I'd think.
The Rs would hate adjusting anyway as the higher CoL blue states would get more money. They'd never let that happen.
So, one set amount was the best they could do.
Last: why would you want to means test? If Rs could do that with SocSec, I'd likely lose a big chunk of mine.
They'd decide my IRA is plenty big.
I don't want Rs having any input as to how much is enough. If we means test SocSec, they get to have an opinion.

(64,995 posts)...is that people with incomes low enough to not file taxes will get paid, but later than those with recent IRS filings.
How much later? I don't recall it estimating that.

(8,311 posts)I didn't, but I know why -- my now-deceased mother claimed me in 2018 and 2019 -- she took out huge retirement disbursements those years to help pay for my medications and take care of other things, and when we did all the numbers she had provided more than half of my support.
But the 2019 year was the last one where she ever had enough money to claim me, and passed away after receiving her $1200 (no additional $500 for me or any other adult dependent).
So now we're looking at me filing my 2020 taxes to show Mom couldn't have claimed me (and get the $1800 total to me), and my sister (administratix of Mom's estate) filing Mom's final tax return showing she was only eligible for $1200 and didn't make enough to provide half my support that year even before she passed (and return any $600 that gets deposited into her now-frozen bank account).

(64,995 posts)...have posted they already got their payment.
You're getting your payment a day before they're sent, and some people got them yesterday. So, he's 4 days off.
You're right. He is clueless.
