Klobuchar Rips Hawley over Plan to Object to Electoral College Results: 'Coup Attempt'
Source: National Review
Senator Amy Klobuchar (D., Minn.) said Wednesday that Josh Hawleys (R., Mo.) plan to object to the certification of Electoral College votes amounted to a coup attempt.
Hawley said in a Wednesday statement that he could not vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states
failed to follow their own state election laws, and called on Congress to investigate allegations of voter fraud.
This is how you run for President on the Republican side in 2024. You join a coup attempt, Klobuchar wrote on Twitter in response to Hawley. Democracy will prevail. As lead Dem on Rules [Committee] I will guarantee it.

President Trump has refused to publicly concede defeat to opponent Joe Biden, and has alleged that Democrats stole the election by means of widespread voter fraud. Lawyers allied with the president have sued to void the election results in several crucial states, but have not presented evidence of fraud compelling enough to overturn the results.

(7,402 posts)The votes were cast in the manner proscribed, the procedures assured the process was proper and the votes were counted properly. Trump has gone to court many times and failed to prove voter fraud. Trump is in court today with the same claim Howley is making. The solution, if the court found that the election process was not properly followed, would not be to toss out ballots but to call for a new election. And it is too late for that because Trumps term expires at noon on January 20th. Bush v. Gore established that. That being the case, what Hawley is calling for is clearly a coup attempt. It certainly has nothing to do with the law or the establish legal process. The election was finalized on December 14th. Everything beyond that is ceremonial. Pence should merely gavel Howley's motion out of order and proceed to announce the 306-232 vote total. Pence is probably too weak kneed to do that though.
