Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R ) signed a bill Wednesday that will require any aborted tissue to be either buried or cremated, leaving the decision to either the female patient or the clinic and penalizing whoever fails to decide.
The bill signed on Wednesday also states, the pregnant woman is responsible for the costs related to the final disposition of the fetal remains at the chosen location.
Those who are found to have failed to meet the requirements defined in the bill are subject to face, a misdemeanor of the first degree. If cremation is chosen as the form of disposal then the remains must either be placed in a "grave, crypt, or niche" or scattered in a "dignified manner."
Laurel Powell of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio told local ABC-affiliate News 5 the law was not necessary.

(51,545 posts)Think we should require every man to solemnly bury or "donate to science" every jizz-filled Kkeenex he produces, or risk prison?

(12,253 posts)my suggestion was that a third choice be added to point out the absurdity of this bill. Of course it's no one's business what a woman does with her pregnancy, and it's also no oe's business what a man does with his jizz-filled Kleenex.
I didn't comment to start a fight, I just proposed adding a scientific option to the existing legislation.

(22,243 posts)I am trying to remember but I think there was something about women being arrested if they had a miscarriage at home and couldn't prove it wasn't an abortion? That was what triggered the "Periods for Pence" campaign.

Describing ANY Retrumplican politician as 'good', or 'decent', is like saying 'Jeffrey Dahmer was a good neighbor because he only ate out of towners'".
Retrumplicans MUST be defeated EVERYWHERE!!

And no, I am not joking. The cruel hypocrisy involved is gut-churning.

(56 posts)The vast majority of therapeutic vs. spontaneous abortions occur prior to 10 weeks gestation. How is cremation or burial even possible when the actual fetal tissue (if it could be isolated from the products of conception) is only 1/2-1 inch long?

Freedom! Being told by the government how you must run your belief system according to government standards.
This has to be unconstitutional.

After all, if the sinful woman wasnt doing something wrong, she would not have lost her baby. Be on notice: this is seriously where it is going, and in some cases has already gone (Fresno, California, for instance).

We have the constitution right to have an abortion, regardless of financial status. That leaves it as the state's obligation.
They really thought this out.

(21,550 posts)burial traditions are deeply steeped in religious practices. Establishing a burial requirement like this establishes a religion and violates the mother's and clinic's (remember, business are people under Citizens United), choice of religious burial practice (or non at all if they so choose)

Having to listen to this crap much of my life in general (in the zeitgeist) not (luckily!) from my immediate or extended family.
Just cause I didn't want kids didn't mean I didn't/don't want good maternal care, education, good health care, nutrition, domicile etc, and support for people/person w kid(s).
(people in general, too! 🙂 )
