So he's joined the circus. Does he think he's got a chance of the 2024 nomination?

(397 posts)for sure. They could care less about you after you are born. Actually I dont think they are pro life or anti-abortion at all. Most of them use it as a political tool to get votes.
In reality, they don't give a shit about abortion. How many "pro-life" Congressmen (and yes, it's always men) have been caught pressuring their mistresses into having abortions?
They use abortion as an issue to keep the rabid base in line. And, just like in every issue, when they have power they don't do a thing to actually reduce abortions. The number of abortions always declines under Democratic rule, because we actually care about things like contraception and sex education.

(530 posts)These people are and have been traitors to these United States of America since before the 2016 election. All of them. Since the Republican National Convention back in the summer of 2016, all of these assholes who have been standing close to DJTs side have been plotting with him and probably Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Turkey, Hungary, etc, to overthrow our government. We are quite probably woefully unprepared for what they have planned between now and January 20th. Everything they do is will malice aforethought. They do not have any sense of loyalty to the Constitution, they only are loyal to the cult of Donald Trump which is based on greed and power.

'1918 Germany Has a Warning for America.' Donald Trumps Stop the Steal campaign recalls one of the most disastrous political lies of the 20th century. By Jochen Bittner, 'Die Zeit' Contributor Opinion, New York Times, Nov. 30, 2020.
...
Its core claim was that Imperial Germany never lost World War I. Defeat, its proponents said, was declared but not warranted. It was a conspiracy, a con, a capitulation a grave betrayal that forever stained the nation. That the claim was palpably false didnt matter. Among a sizable number of Germans, it stirred resentment, humiliation and anger. And the one figure who knew best how to exploit their frustration was Adolf Hitler. Dont get me wrong: This is not about comparing Mr. Trump to Hitler, which would be absurd. But the Dolchstosslegende provides a warning.
Its tempting to dismiss Mr. Trumps irrational claim that the election was rigged as a laughable last convulsion of his reign or a cynical bid to heighten the market value for the TV personality he might once again intend to become, especially as he appears to be giving up on his effort to overturn the election result.
But that would be a grave error. Instead, the campaign should be seen as what it is: an attempt to elevate They stole it to the level of legend, perhaps seeding for the future social polarization and division on a scale America has never seen. In 1918, Germany was staring at defeat. The entry of the United States into the war the year before, and a sequence of successful counterattacks by British and French forces, left German forces demoralized. Navy sailors went on strike. They had no appetite to be butchered in the hopeless yet supposedly holy mission of Kaiser Wilhelm II and the loyal aristocrats who made up the Supreme Army Command. A starving population joined the strikes and demands for a republic grew. On Nov. 9, 1918, Wilhelm abdicated, and two days later the army leaders signed the armistice.
It was too much to bear for many: Military officers, monarchists and right-wingers spread the myth that if it had not been for political sabotage by Social Democrats and Jews back home, the army would never have had to give in. The deceit found willing supporters. Im Felde unbesiegt undefeated on the battlefield was the slogan with which returning soldiers were greeted. Newspapers and postcards depicted German soldiers being stabbed in the back by either evil figures carrying the red flag of socialism or grossly caricatured Jews. By the time of the Treaty of Versailles the following year, the myth was already well established. The harsh conditions imposed by the Allies, including painful reparation payments, burnished the sense of betrayal. It was especially incomprehensible that Germany, in just a couple of years, had gone from one of the worlds most respected nations to its biggest loser.
The key to Hitlers success was that, by 1933, a considerable part of the German electorate had put the ideas embodied in the myth honor, greatness, national pride above democracy.

The lawsuits are to build the sense of grievance in Trump's base - the stab-in-the-back myth
They're blaming socialists again - and even the occasional use of 'globalists' and 'Soros' echoes the blame of Jews a century ago.

(7,263 posts)And that is one of the MAJOR issues we have today.
The myth that The South is Going to Rise Again is anything but a myth in the minds of a lot of Southerners. It is ingrained in their characters and it is what makes it so easy for the Right to highjack this undemocratic meme.
It has been fostered over the years by popular culture - for example 'southern rock' music (Lynard Skynard), heavy metal (Nugent) a lot of country music, and even some 'Rap' (Kid Rock).
Radical Southern Christian Groups have also latched onto this mindset.
And of coarse there is old Jim Crow hisself still promoting the systemic meme 'Those black people (libtards) want Our Daughters."

(101,300 posts)No, there is absolutely no way we are "concerned about voter fraud and irregularities in the last election" in the way that Pence says. Don't be so naive. You're saying "he's only asking questions". Don't put forward the bullshit defence for them.

(82 posts)Marc Short, Pences chief of staff, said in a statement on Saturday that the vice president welcomed the effort to raise objections and bring forward evidence before the Congress and the American people on January 6th.
On Saturday, Utah Senator Mitt Romney described as nonsense, the idea that a congressional audit would restore trust in the election, saying the American people trusted federals judges more than Congress. In a statement, he said: The egregious ploy to reject electors may enhance the political ambition of some, but dangerously threatens our Democratic Republic President Trumps lawyers made their case before scores of courts; in every instance, they failed.
On Saturday, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said she would vote to certify the results, writing: The oath I took at my swearing-in was to support and defend the constitution of the United States, and that is exactly what I will do. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, a state where Trump has sued, said he would vigorously defend our form of government by opposing this effort to disenfranchise millions of voters in my state and others.

(1,685 posts)Voter fraud is minuscule. Election fraud, imo, is the concerted effort by Republicans, who admit they do worse when more people vote, to disenfranchise those who are eligible to vote. They utilize irregularities in the form of limiting polling places, numbers of voting machines, shortening hours etc.
