George W. Bush to Attend Biden's Inauguration in Signal of Unity

Source: Bloomberg

John Harney 2 hrs ago

(Bloomberg) -- George W. Bush, the only living Republican former president, will attend the inauguration of Joe Biden later this month, a spokesman said on Tuesday night.

Bush, who left office in 2009, will be accompanied by his wife, Laura, according to his chief of staff, Freddy Ford.

The couple has gone to the inaugurations of Bush’s successors, Barack Obama and Donald Trump. It remains unclear whether Trump, who continues to insist, without evidence, that widespread fraud denied him re-election, will appear at the event on Jan. 20.

“I believe this will be the eighth inauguration they’ve had the privilege of attending -- President Trump’s being the most recent -- and witnessing the peaceful transfer of power is a hallmark of our democracy that never gets old,” Ford said in a statement.

BUT he is not a single-minded narcissist like Trump, I'll give him that. The bar is underground at this point, so it's easy for him to step over it.

Who would have thought that HE might be the last civil and polite R President ever?

He was feckless, lazy and began two needless and endless wars.

The GOP became much more nasty under his watch.

But he bowed out with grace in 2009.

On Friday, 14 September 2007, ORB International published estimates of the total war casualties in Iraq since the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.[1] At over 1.2 million deaths (1,220,580).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ORB_survey_of_Iraq_War_casualties

A war based on lies. However, imho, it was Cheney's & Rumsfeld's dirty war & Jr. was just the figurehead. However, he could've & should've stopped it.

However, I'm sure you know all of this. And I agree, he otherwise seems to be a decent person.

inaugurations. There's only 4 now, Carter, Clinton, Bush and Obama. Carter's 96 and smartly staying home due to his and Rosalyn's age. Bush, aside from soon-to-be-ex-president Trump, is the only R.

who like to murder women and gays. I don't see one shred of decency about Bush--he found supporting Trump repugnant for ego reasons, not from any principled stance. Trump would NEVER have been elected if Bush had not empowered idiots and fascists. He brought STUPID to the WH.

Didn't Trump claim that he defeated both Bush and Clinton 'dynasties'?

Btw. I still feel that Bush was a stepping stone toward Trump - Had his stupidity not been normalized as some sort of 'straight shooter' quality by the RW media and his enablers, people might have kept their expectations a bit higher (that a president should be able to string together at-least a couple of sentences without fumbling).
