These are 7 day moving averages, so at least the day-of-the-week effect has been washed out, and we're not talking about a 1 day thingie.
Maybe it's because of holiday reporting anomalies and backlogs of cases being reported, but something to keep an eye on.
I'm in one of those states, Minnesota (along with neighbors in the upper midwest), that has had a huge decline since late November, and are seeing an upturn.

I'm disappointed to hear that the https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html link doesn't work?
Are you paywalled? The NYTimes's covid coverage is supposed to be free. Many months ago I had to sign up for it, but after that I haven't been asked even once to log in or anything. I thought they had dropped even the sign up thing. I've never been a subscriber, i.e. I've never paid anything ever.
I so like those 50 states mini-charts all on one page. There are two other sites that also have them like that, but their resolution is much less, but anyway, still see the trends of all states on one page at a glance.
