Pelosi calls for invoking 25th Amendment and says Congress could impeach if Pence does not act
Source: CNN
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for invoking the 25th Amendment over the riots at the US Capitol and said that if that doesnt happen then Congress may move to impeach.
I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this President by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment. If the vice president and the Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment that is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus and the American people," she said in a news conference
This comes after Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer earlier today called for the vice president to immediately invoke the 25th Amendment.

From Washington Post:
Trump invited an armed insurrection against the United States of America, Pelosi told reporters at the Capitol, a day after a pro-Trump mob incited by the president stormed the Capitol, vandalizing the building and forcing lawmakers to be evacuated.
Pelosi left open the possibility of impeaching Trump a second time.

Cruz and Hawley won't vote for it, but they will twist arms of others they might want in their camp o vote that way.

Impeach with a "do not rehire" stamp on it. So he can't ever hold public office again.

(42,770 posts)What hasn't seemed to happen with trump is that there isn't punishment immediately. As close to crime as possible. If VP and cabinet were gonna invoke the 25th and really felt there was danger they would have done it at 10pm last night.
Realistically, a deadline should be given to VP. Becoming more obvious that they are really not that worried.

(9,313 posts)People might contend time is too short to impeach, or that it isn't necessary, but I fervently hope (probably futility, but hope springs eternal and all that) this new majority caucus can "herd the cats," with lighting speed and vote out articles and enlist enough Republican Senators to remove. He would be unable to run again and it would make it clear to history how dangerous the man was -- that even another day with his finger "on the button" could not be risked.
At a minimum, voting out articles would be a powerful statement, regardless of outcome. (Particularly if removal even just got a simple majority.)

(18,632 posts)No way Trump's, non confirmed toadie cabinet members would agree to that.
They have no morals and are just boot licking hanger ons.
And an impeachment will have no effect whatsoever on Trump in the next two weeks.
It could be useful if he was convicted after leaving because it would make him ineligible for office but it's just symbolic until then.
Trump will remain holding all the power of the presidency for the next two weeks, no matter what.
The danger remains.
