US Capitol Police officer has died following riot at Capitol
Source: CNN
A US Capitol Police officer has died from events stemming from Wednesday's riot at the Capitol, three sources confirmed to CNN.
The police officer is now the fifth person to die as a result of the day's violence. One woman was shot and killed by Capitol Police as the crowd breached the building and three others suffered medical emergencies that proved fatal.
Rioters on Wednesday breached the Capitol building and the Senate chamber, ransacked the offices of Pelosi and other Capitol offices, and a laptop was stolen from the office of Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley.

(23,314 posts)I do wonder if this person was one of the complicit officers who allowed the insurrectionists through the door or did he/she resist the mob? I hope we will find out what happened.

(43,161 posts)that is a really alarming development.
Also I read 50 police officers were injured.
Police were outnumbered, I read some 3500 on hand plus 300 National Guard. Totally inadequate. Lots of speculation on Twitter today that this was by design, preplanned.
So Trump stripped the USPS of sorting machines, and lightened the police presence so they'd be ineffective?

If a cop had been attacked, then died, during the riots, the PD and press would have been a big deal out of it.

US Capitol Police say reports that an officer has died are not true. "Although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away."

(8,820 posts)is correct.
However, there are reports the police person is on Life Support and they are waiting for family.
Waiting for Family, often describes a brain dead condition, and they want to give time to the family before life support is disconnected.
It will be interesting to see what the case truly is.
Some law opinions feel that if a Police Officer (or anyone for that matter) died as a result of the attack, then EVERY SINGLE PERSON involved IN ANY WAY with the criminal act that resulted in the death can be charged with Murder in the second degree......

I'd still like to know what happened to these other 3 people that died from, "medical emergencies".
