(CNN) A Republican state legislator may have let protesters into the Oregon Capitol last month during a closed session, according to state police and officials, resulting in a showdown that left two people arrested.
"Oregon State Police (OSP) has confirmed and informed us that Representative Mike Nearman did open a door to allow demonstrators into the building," Oregon Speaker of the House Tina Kotek said Thursday during a press briefing on Capitol security plans.
A spokesman for the state police confirmed to CNN that Kotek's statement was accurate but did not provide further details on an investigation or whether Nearman could face charges.
CNN reached out to Nearman's office but did not receive a response.

I hope Sund gets convicted and imprisoned. Five people died, including Capitol Police officer. Over 50 security officers wounded.
There is blood on Sund's hands. And that toady acting Secretary of Defense.

(14,914 posts)Nearman is a former software engineer and current Oregon director for the Freedom Foundation, an anti-union group.
Nearman has drawn both criticism and praise for his involvement with controversial measures and groups, including being the vice president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, an organization labeled as an anti-immigrant hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
Leaders of the group deny being a hate group and, instead, say they focus on enforcing existing immigration laws.
In 2017, Nearmans then-legislative aide Angela Roman was arrested for illegally transferring a gun to Matthew Heagy, a convicted felon.
Roman and Heagy were both members of the Oregon Three Percenters, a right-wing militia group, and attended a pro-Trump rally at the Oregon State Capitol. Heagy was arrested for pepper-spraying a state trooper.
After Romans arrest, Nearman voiced his support for his aide, who later went on to unsuccessfully run for Congress.

(46 posts)This guy just got re-elected for his fourth term, defeating a more than qualified Democratic candidate (58.3 - 34.9). He's my state representative (sh*t!), here in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Don't let it be said that Oregon is a liberal bastion, people like this are sent to the legislature even here.
If he doesn't resign I'll be doing as much as I can to make sure it's his last term...
