An attempted murderer, a state lawmaker, and multiple self-proclaimed white supremacists.
As prosecutors begin preparing charges against those responsible for Wednesday's deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, profiles of the accused are coming into sharper relief. An examination of police affidavits and arrest records and depict a diverse cross-section of President Donald Trump's most fervent supporters -- and evidence that conspiratorial rumors about a left-wing false-flag operation are without merit.
In the 48 hours since mobs marched on the Capitol, authorities have combed through the same social media images that have ricocheted across the globe, hoping to identify additional suspects. On Thursday, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin said his office had already prepared more than 55 cases connected to the riots, but added, "This is just the beginning."
The FBI and DC Metropolitan Police have shared hundreds of images of suspected rioters on social media channels. On Friday, MPD announced it had received over 17,000 tips.

With the right wing media universe growing, I think the Republican party will grow even more radicalized in the years to come.

(10,486 posts)those cocky Trumpsuckers who posted pix & vids of themselves caught in the act (& their loot) online who otherwise wouldn't have been known to the authorities. I hope the arresting officers & prosecutors will be sure to heartily thank them for providing that helpful evidence.

(172,208 posts)I think we really saw that played out here. Many of them truly believe that they are "the majority" and the lies and distortions that have been built up around them and reinforced, are somehow "reality". When so much of the MSM that has been complicit with this the last 4 years (for "ratings" ), trying to suppress the anger with the "both sides" bullshit, it really is akin to them having created this -
And after they helped to create a literal insurrection and national security breach within the U.S. Capitol, they suddenly and FINALLY "shut him down" (taking the oxygen out of that room). THAT should have been done back when crap like this was being promoted -

(13,560 posts)And stop advertising on Fox News as well as hate radio shows. They are just as responsible as anyone for donating billions over the years to a party that has deliberately stoked racism, hatred of minorities, and helped support anti-government militiasthe very people who are now committing insurrection and killing people. The Republican Party is the one that trades in lies, fake news, and conspiracy theories. No person who cares about democracy and the future of the United States should be donating millions every year to keep them in government and able to keep spewing their vitriolic nonsense.
