Gov. Kristi Noem says Georgia elected 'communists' to serve in the U.S. Senate
Source: Argus Leader
Gov. Kristi Noem this week used social media to denounce riots in the nation's capitol and to remind people, "There are consequences for how we talk to each other in this country."
That didn't stop her, though, from going after two Democrats who won a pair of runoff elections Tuesday in Georgia, contests resulting in Republicans losing control of the Senate for the first time since 2014.
In an op-ed on the alternative news site The Federalist, Noem accused Senator-elects Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock of being communists, calling one a "33-year-old with no accomplishments" and the other a "smooth-talking preacher."

(49,050 posts)Of course the extreme cases are somewhat insane, like the violent ones such as the ret. Lt. Col. in the well of the chamber with the tactical gear and Plasticuffs. His friends and family stated that they have withdrawn from him because he is so obsessed with trumpanzee conspiracy theories.
If it were really true that a Presidential election had been stolen by about 5 million votes, then yes it would be sane rational and reasonable to fight for democracy in the streets and elsewhere.
But they are not entitled to an alternative set of facts. They were never reasoned into their views, though they will cite mountains of "evidence" and string it together with what seems like logic on the surface. Because of a lack of basic reasoning they get emotionally attached to theories and can't be reasoned out of them. They rationalize away counter-evidence and have confirmation bias.
Anytime you take the time to examine it, their evidence and their purported logic quickly falls apart.
So, mostly not insanity; mostly they never learned critical thinking or they lost the skill of analyzing and reasoning carefully.
What remains is a susceptibility to emotion and thus they are easy targets for propaganda.

(3,077 posts)... this goes back to 1980 and the concerted GOP attacks on McGovern and Democratic Party members, especially in South Dakota.
Remember that slimey Paul Erickson guy, who was convicted of defrauding investors in a, "retirement home", scam? Yeah, Maria Butina's boyfriend. When he was head of College Republicans at the University of South Dakota, he stole address and phone number lists of voters and they used it to start sending out and phoning their, "hate McGovern", messages.
"He coordinated a youth campaign for Rep. Jim Abdnor in 1980 while working on his bachelors degree."
[link:https://heavy.com/news/2018/12/paul-erickson/|
The down the line rancor for McGovern by the South Dakota GOP, and even from school teachers, still has me shaking my head as to where the hatred came from. I was a senior in high school in, "small town South Dakota", at the time.
And then jumping to the 2000 election, Bill Janklow was the GOP governor of South Dakota, and he went down to Florida to be a leader of the Brooks Brothers Riot at the election center.
I have noticed many times that the crap they pull in South Dakota is a precursor to what is going to be pulled by the GOP further on down the road.

(21,597 posts)Stacey Abrams was interviewed on TV right before Election Day. She was asked if she was worried. She said no, but that she felt a sense of urgency and that she and everyone else was focused on GOTV up until the polls closed.
Ive never experienced elections like these before. I voted in the primary election, the general election, the December 1 special election runoff which was won by Deborah Gonzalez who is the first Latina DA in GA, and the January 5 statewide special election runoff for senate and public service commission.
Unfortunately, African American Democratic PSC candidate Daniel Blackman lost his election. However, he had a very good turnout and hell stay involved and hopefully run again. As James Carville says, Youre a loser until youre not.
I was able to meet Daniel Blackman and Jon Ossoff in my town the weekend before the January 5 runoff election. The energy and urgency were palpable at that event.

Jon Ossoff has a Master's Degree from the London School of Economics, was a congressional staffer to two United States Congressman, and had a career as an investigative journalist.
Let us look at Noem's accomplishments. Her springboard into politics was winning a beauty pageant. She eventually earned a BA from South Dakota State University in 2012 at the age of 51.*

And you are right - whenever they call for healing and peace, or for our country to come together, they mean only that everything should be done the way THEY want it done.

(2,574 posts)Between 1995 and 2016, her family-owned Racota Valley Ranch in Hazel, South Dakota deposited over $3.7 million in government farm subsidies. In 2012 alone, they cashed $232,707 in subsidy checks, according to the Environmental Working Group Farm Subsidy Database.
https://inequality.org/great-divide/kristi-noem-fudging-estate-taxes-cashing-3-7-million-taxpayer-funded-farm-subsidies/
Money is tight, says Governor Kristi Noem in defense of her visionless budget. But the Governors kin are seeing no lack of government money, thanks to Donald Trump. Our discussion of the $665 million in farm Trumpfare checks that are keeping South Dakota farmers on life support led me to peruse the Environmental Working Group database and find that Racota Valley Ranch, the corporation held by Noems brothers Robb and Rock Arnold, has received $345,775 in Market Facilitation Payments from 2018 through October 31, 2019.
.........
Racota Valley Ranch has raked in $4.13 million in farm subsidies since 1995. Noem owned a share of the farm during much of that period. And with Trump now saying he might keep the trade war going until after the 2020 election, Noems kin may get to sit back and cruise on another full year of six-figure farm welfare checks.
Also of note among the Trumpfare handout recipients is Former Ag Secretary Walt Boness Hexad Farms has gotten $350,344 in MFP. Just a few weeks ago, the state approved $756,000 in tax kickbacks to subsidize an expansion of Boness Turner County Dairy into Minnehaha County.
Thats South Dakota: run by Republicans, fed by socialism.

(70,614 posts)Noem is just an idiot who helped S.D. become a national leader in C-19 cases.
From Wiki:
Early life and education
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Ossoff was raised in Northlake, an unincorporated community.[16] Ossoff's mother, Heather Fenton, an Australian immigrant who moved to the U.S. at age 23,[17] was born and raised in Sydney.[18] She co-founded NewPower PAC, an organization that works to elect women to local office across Georgia.[4][19] His father, Richard Ossoff, who is of Russian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish descent, owns Strafford Publications, a specialist publishing company.[17] Ossoff was raised Jewish.[20] He previously held Australian citizenship through his mother.[18]
He attended the Paideia School, an independent school in Atlanta.[17] While in high school, he interned for civil rights leader and U.S. representative John Lewis.[17] In 2009, Ossoff graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service with a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended classes taught by former U.S. secretary of state Madeleine Albright and former Israeli ambassador to the United States Michael Oren.[21][22] He earned a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics in 2013.[21][22][23]
Early career
Ossoff worked as a national security staffer and aide to U.S. representative Hank Johnson for five years.[24] He left Johnson's office in 2012 to earn a master's degree at the London School of Economics.[25] Before working for Johnson, he served as an intern for U.S. representative and civil rights leader John Lewis, who recommended him to Johnson.[26][27]
Since 2013, Ossoff has been managing director and chief executive officer of Insight TWI, a London-based investigative television production company that works with reporters to create documentaries about corruption in foreign countries.[28][29] The firm produced BBC investigations about ISIS war crimes and death squads in East Africa. He was also involved in producing a documentary about the staging of a play in Sierra Leone.[29]
